Part of the problem is that very few applications from regular people are actually looked at anymore and they've resorted to casting Mactors. These are people who are supposed to look good in front of the camera. They might pass all the application data and the mental exams and stuff but let's be honest....if the casting director has a choice between someone who's butt-ugly and the swimsuit model with the big plastic boobs who thinks Survivor is her springboard to a Playboy centerfold and all other things are equal, you know who they're going to cast.

That's not to say Mactors can't play the game or that people who are approached by the casting directors are all wrong. Ian is never going to be confused with a male model but he got on Survivor Palau because he'd originally applied for TAR. Jonathan Penner was approached at a party by the casting director and invited to apply for TAR but he and his wife didn't want to leave their kids alone for 45 days. So he applied for Survivor instead and became known as a prime player of the game. But the point is you've got to have just a tiny bit of reality with your Reality TV show and they've ventured further and further away from that over the years. The audience has to feel like regular people are playing the game and they have just as good of a shot at being on the show and winning as one of the Beautiful People and I think they've kinda lost sight of that.

Exactly. Recruits are 100% ok as long as they make sure there is say 1 or 2 people who may try to hit it big after the show. People like Colleen, Heidik, and JFP were all recruited and were all great cast members. They just need to understand that in the real world, maybe 2% of the people are trying to hit it big in Hollywood or New York while everyone else is just an average person, but these average people are all entertaining in their own ways as long as they are open to showing it and not being biased.
