The Modern World has done so much for Humanity in terms of Better Lifestyles/Health Care/Happiness/Longevity/Space Exploration/Disease Control...on and on. This squeamishness about war casualities and collateral damage is why it costs so much and takes so long. Somehow in the last 30 years we have been forced into this "nice" warfare and frankly it makes me wonder if we can ever win another war. In any contest a person who is held to rules their opponent is free to ignore will almost always lose.

It's almost as if we are ignoring the overriding lesson we learned in Vietnam: Never try to engage your enemy in a statistical fair fight in a venue of his choosing. When overwhelming force is yours to use, you are obligated to use it. Of course what is going on over there is no longer a war, so that rule may no longer apply.
