Wow, to each their own I guess. She still has I think the best story out of all the contestants. She'll always be one of my ultimate favorites.

Kathy had a good story and played a good game. I know she has a lot of fans on this board, but for me, if I were stranded on an island with her, she would be one of the first to go -- everything about her was soooo dramatic and over-the-top. She seemed very full of herself. And her "I'm-so-cool" hippy-talk really grates on my nerves.

I didn't mean to use her age as an 'excuse'; Neleh did not play a good game and did not deserve to win. But I think it was Kathy who made a comment about how hard it is to play Survivor when you're a 40 year old adult, and it's even harder when you're a clueless kid. I think it's a good point.


As to the editing, I think that's one of the things I notice that make the early (pre-ASS) episodes so great. It seems like they spent more time introducing all of the players and focusing on gameplay. Even something as simple as showing all the contestants with their names, jobs and ages makes such a difference. The later seasons tend to focus on a handful of players (trying to create 'stars') and spend an inordinate time on the challenges. Frankly, all I care about in the challenges is who wins (and if any players screw up, since this may be important with respect to the boot). I want to see players form alliances and discuss their strategies.

Now, of course, I had to start watching Thailand. First impression: I'm surprised at how little we see of Brian during the first few episodes. He has a great line in episode 1 about being on a "business trip". God, I love Brian!

I really like John as I watched S4 this time. He played hard and he played to win. I think maybe he was trying a little too hard to be Hatch. Rich had all those great confessionals in S1 where he talked about controlling the game. John seemed to make the mistake of telling all the other players that he was running the game!

The coconut chop challenge is legendary for a reason. And in fairness, I think this was the first time this sort of challenge was played, and the Rotu 4 fell for it hook, line and sinker. Later players had the opportunity to see how this challenge played out and could adapt (I remember Rob C purposely answering questions incorrectly so he wouldn't have to chop people), but the Rotu 4 had to play the challenge in real time. It makes me understand, too, why EPMB keeps trying to come up with twists to shake up the game. Too bad he hasn't come up with any good ones in a very long time. . . .
