We never really have came close and dropped the ball at the finish line, repeatedly. In fact, the Milwaukee Braves won one or two WS back in the 50's and the new team, the Brewers, went to the WS in 82', and the Cubs haven't won since 1908 and haven't been to the WS since 1945ish. Last season was the first time that they had a winning season in my lifetime (they did in 1990 or something but I can't remember obviously) and this is the first year they ever went to the playoffs since 1982, which I wasn't alive for. I expect them to lose and am use to it, so when they actually do good it's a nice pleasant surprise. It's not like for the last 20 years I have been sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for them to breakthrough and win the World Series, like all the Cubs fans have been doing. Oh wait, they have been doing that for 100 years!!!
