We have an incredibly meaningful series starting tonight with the Cards. It looks to me as if this is the next step in the learning curve for the young Brewers. Melvin, after taking some rips earlier this year,has stepped up and delivered the good to help make this team better. Sabathia and Durham should both help us in the stretch run. It will be interesting to see if we can develop a little bit more plate discipline. I happen to think that if we would could learn to stay off those bad pitches and make the pitcher throw strikes we could easily be the team to beat in NL Central.

So Yost is going to have to figure out some way to work around Gagne and Mota for another four days. And that could be tough with Suppan pitching on Tuesday.

Lest we forget the Mets are doing this with Chavez, Easley, Tatis, and Marlon Anderson playing on a regular basis. Imagine what would happen if Church manages to play consistently and the Mets trade for a corner outfielder. This is a high water mark in Metville. A grand criac! I hope they soak it all in because they'll look back on this time as the highlight of the season when they were good for a couple of weeks. Since Gangsta Jerry took over, Mets have only lost one series over the last FIVE weeks. During the same period, another team lost six series and has a 12-17 record. Seeing how they've been pounded on the field and on this board for a season and half now, who can blame them. Did someone mention a pounding? Ya Gotta Believe 14 Team StarRider 3 I allowed StarRider to kick a late FG to salvage what little dignity he has left.

Although, the way the pitching matchups shake out for this series, I'm glad Santana was moved up. Initially, I wasn't planning on going Thursday since it's a matinee but I've been meaning to take a day off work this week for various reasons (mainly to see the Dark Knight). I figure I'll soak in some sun and enjoy an afternoon game between division rivals and see the movie afterwards. Works out perfectly for me.

No way can they hope to have any momentum going into the last two months of the season if they lose another series to the Mets after already losing one to the Marlins.

Posts: 5586 (07/21/08 12:25 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	im hoping to win 2/3...probably the first two (yes im relying on myers to pitch a good game which is probably a terrible idea so maybe i should switch my seats to the outfield and try and catch one of the 5 home run balls he tosses.) supposedly blanton raped the mets in all his career starts vs the mets so hopefully that continues and hopefully santana and maine continue to struggle. oliver perez could be at his worst and the phils still wouldnt be able to hit off him because his arm angle is so good they cant see the pitches so well probably lose the last one even with moyer pitching well lately. im not sure if im mad or happy that wagner might not pitch during the series because of his shoulder or whatever he hurt yesterday.

Then again, a year ago, the Sillies managed to get within 2 back, fall back, get to 2 back. Back and forth 3 times. A Mets sweep sparked each comeback. I don't understand the pessimism, unless that's coded in the DNA of a Philly fan. There are too many games left in the seaon to freak out over falling back behind the Mets. The Phighting Phillies seem to have trademarked the baseball comeback, so I think it's kinda funny to start doubting them now with about 63 games left.

The offense has been inconsistent since then. Utley, who looked like an MVP candidate in April and May has cooled of. Jimmy Rollins looks lost at the plate (I wasn't expecting another MVP season from him, but I didn't expect him to suck as much as he has) and the entire bottom of the order is a black hole. Whats even more frustrating is that the major weakness last year, SP and bullpen have actually been pretty good this year.

Can't say I disagree w/ him. Anyway, I'm not worried about the Mets starters. I expect Santana/Maine/Perez to give the Mets a chance to win but the bats concern me since they've struggled against mediocre pitching (specially the Phillies starting staff). Frankly, I'll be surprised if Blanton and Myers don't pitch well in this series. Remember when someone here wanted Delgado off the team and said he was washed up? <------this guy His .419 BA in July suggests otherwise. lol pwned.

Its kind of like staying out until 3 when you have to be at work at 7. While you know its a bad idea, your still excited about it.
