David Cook is the first result by typing in just "D" in the iTunes search box. :O

I don't understand how Porkchop was able to perform it though. The song was written in 1985 and released in 1986, but Porkchop was born in 1990. I
personally like John Farnham's version better than Heart's (Youtube - hadn't heard of it before.. *lol*).
Edit - Oh I see - it was released in '86 but re-released in '90. TPTB will do anything to find loopholes for Porkchop.

Wow, I think 42,873 people sang that song. How have I not heard it? I kinda like Rebecca St. James' version.

'Idol' Download Rankings Appear On iTunes April 02, 2008, 7:30 PM ET Ann Donahue, L.A. Looking for a spoiler for "American Idol" tonight? Go to the iTunes Music Store. As of 4 p.m. PT, the pre-orders for the studio session downloads of the top 9 "Idol" contestants' performances for Dolly Parton week were listed -- and ranked -- under the Top Albums section of the music store. There, David Archuleta's "Smoky Mountain Memories" is in at No. 7, followed by Michael Johns' 'It's All Wrong, But It's All Right" at No. 12, David Cook's "Little Sparrow" at No. 14, Jason Castro's "Travelin' Thru" at No. 20, Carly Smithson's "Here You Come Again" at No. 30 and Brooke White's "Jolene" at No. 47. No other "Idol" was on the top 100 listed, although Parton herself was No. 100 with "Ultimate Dolly Parton." In a behind-the-scenes vignette on a recent show, the "American Idol" contestants were shown recording their tracks for download on iTunes -- but host Ryan Seacrest emphasized that to not influence voting for the show, the precise sales and rankings for each of the contestants would not be revealed. Spokespersons with iTunes and "American Idol" did not immediately respond to requests for comment. |

I just listened to several of them. I definitely liked Carly's. I liked the first 3/4 of David Cook's, but I didn't care for the acapella singing
at the end. Jason's single is like the neverending song.

Michael John's studio version is KICKASS, though it does lack some of the soulful adlibs of the live performance.

Omigod, Jason's studio version of "Travelin' Thru" is stunning. Without the band and back-up singers drowning him out it's
much more nuanced and he gets in all the humming and 'oooooo's' plus a little falsetto at the end. It's nearly 5 minutes of sweet soothing
listening delight.

Brooke's studio version of "Jolene" is really good, much better than the live.
Carly's "Here You Come Again" is wonderful yet again. Wow, I love this girl. |

suckshardcore wrote: I noticed that Jolene was MUCH better in the studio. I don't know what that says for Brooke as a performing artist, as she would most likely have to rely on doing gigs. I can't see her as a major recording artist without doing tons of gigs. Carly's studio version is excellent. One of the few I would actually buy. I like Castro's studio version, but his voice still doesn't blow me away. I look at singers in his genre that I like and those guys can REALLY sing (such as Amos Lee, Marc Broussard, Jason Mraz, etc.) Jason just doesn't bring anything new or exciting to the table. I guess his making it is really going to depend on what HIS music sounds like, as well as the lyrical content. |

Michael's studio MP3 is excellent. He would make an awesome album along the lines of James Morrison's album.
"Little Sparrow" is really nice. I got Kristy Lee's too, it's good. |
