It's not like either of them gave stellar performances and had shock boots. They gave sub par performances and didn't have the fanbase to keep them
in. No conspiracy. They sucked and now they're gone and by next week they'll be forgotten.

Who is supposed to go, though? The one who was the worst on any given night or the one who is the overall worst based on cumulative performances?

I'd say that by EITHER standard, David wasn't the one who deserved to go. Overall, he was one of the best. He has certainly been more consistently good than Kristy, Amanda, Michael, Chikezie... If we're just basing it on this one performance, he wasn't the worst, either. As bad as Hernandez was this week, both Archuleta and Kristy were even worse.

I get that he's creepy and manic and annoying. I understand WHY he didn't attract the voters. I just don't think that in a singing competition, we should be celebrating a really good singer going home this early.

Based on post-boot interviews, David was delusional about what his strengths were. He called himself a "Balladeer", which is pretty ridiculous considering his best performance was "Papa was a Rolling Stone", delivered in a Justin Timberlake-esque style. With that insane view of himself as a "Big Song" singer, he was going to flame out of the competition at some point simply due to the fact that he wasn't going to be able to play to his strengths.
