The American Idol final 12 was announced Thursday night with probably the biggest shock of the season thus far being Asia'h Epperson being voted off. She performed Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", and though it was all right and she certainly has the looks and confidence, it wasn't good enough for America. Asia'h had 25/1 odds of winning American Idol heading into Thursday night's results show at Bodog, which incidentally still had odds on those voted off long after the show had already ended, demonstrating once again the disadvantage that oddsmakers located outside the US have in managing American Idol betting odds. Obviously, this gives AI fans a huge advantage. Pinnacle Sports was quick to update their American Idol odds immediately following Thursday night's results show. They do not, however, accept customers from within the United States. The favorite - David Archuleta - was actually still a solid value requiring only a little more than a dollar risk to get a dollar back (the initial bet is paid back as well only if he becomes the next American Idol). Archuleta opened the Top 12 as a -130 favorite, requiring a $1.30 bet to win $1.00 (again, you would get that $1.30 back or whatever you end up betting only if Archuleta were to win the competition). The next big favorite would offer a nice big payout if she were to win: $5.03 for every $1.00 bet. That would be Ireland's own Carly Smithson. Australia's Michael Johns would pay out $7.25 for every $1.00 bet. We here at Gambling911.com are really liking David Cook, who would pay out $25.52 for every $1.00 bet at this stage in
the game.

Getting signed doesn't mean instant success. Fucking Carmen had/has a record deal.

All this brings up a good question: just how many people in the top 12 DO have a chance to win? Archuleta's obviously the favorite, and obviously Michael
Johns and Carly Smithson have some shot. I'd definitely add Ramielle to that list, and maybe David Cook. But is there anybody else with even the remotest
chance? Iincidentally, has anybody pointed out that the last favorite to win was Reuben, FIVE SEASONS AGO?

Ashley Simpson has an record deal and I think it's obvious that bitch can't sing. Her first album debuted at #1, went triple platinum and got her a TV show. Her second album came out 15 months later, also debuted at #1 and went platinum. What point were you trying to make?

Fantasia and Carrie were obvious wins. I had them pegged right from the start of the season. I don't know what the betting odds were for either of them,
but to me at least it was clear they would win.
Taylor probably wasn't the odds-on favorite in his season, but anyone who looked at DialIdol after the first couple of weeks knew he was the probable winner. Jordin is the only slightly surprising winner. Although I wasn't really surprised that Melinda lost, I was surprised she went out in 3rd place. I figured she would probably lose in the final 2 to whoever she was up against. As for this season -- Brooke has a chance, Jason Castro has a chance, in addition to the people you mentioned. Although realistically I don't think any of the girls have a legitimate chance at winning. This is definitely a guy's season. |
