I'll second that. Anybody who goes on the Archuleta hate thread will realize how reasonable this one is. About the worst things anybody has said about Jason is that he's probably a stoner and he's not a very good singer. There are also times, especially recently when he hasn't seemed to be trying very hard. But can anybody really blame him for that? He's continued to stay safe with sucky performances, he's not going to win anyway unless somebody shoots all three other people remaining, and there's absolutely no evidence that his singing COULD get much better if he worked at it.

Why do I think this? Play back Daydream, his first performance in the top 24, and you will see it. Jason WAS working his voice for all it's got that night, but that isn't saying much. And if you look again at his best performances, like Hallelujah and Over The Rainbow, he's not singing very well then, either. In fact, he's NEVER sung very well, and he probably can't. With Jason, it's always been about his laid back (i.e. stoned) charm, plus (mostly) good song selection and arrangements. Jason is pretty savvy about this aspect of the show, which is why he'll never give a Sanjaya-type trainwreck performance. But I actually think that he's got about the weakest voice of anybody who's ever made it to the finals, with the possible exceptions of Jon Peter Lewis and Corey Clark. It is pleasant enough, but far below professional quality in every way possible. He has no power, range, presence, or dynamics. His tone and pitch are only passable (Sanjaya was more melodic, for example) and his enunciation is poor. This is why people compare him to street buskers and 2nd leads in high school plays. His voice really is that weak. He seems like a nice guy and really has given some good performances in spite of everything, but he has overstayed his welcome and needs to go home really soon.
