I haven't watched this in ages, but grew up with it, so I was sad to see that it's cancelled. Can't believe it's been around for 72 freaking
years. My grandma remembers listening to it on the radio, lol.

I hoped when I heard this that it was an April Fool's Day joke. Unfortunately it's not.
The end of an era. |

I can just imagine what they will put in it's place... another talk show or game show no doubt

The rumor is that Les Moonves will replace GL with a talk show hosted by Julie Chen (his wife).

That's still my all-time favourite story. I was blissfully even casting spoiler free then and when I first saw "Marian" on screen I thought
something was weird about 'her' but couldn't quite place it. Just before the reveal was made in that 1st ep I realized and yelled out "OMG
It's Brent!!"
The scene where kills Nadine and the scene where he attacks Susan Bates in the shower were both re-watchable a thousand times over. His delivery of the funny made me laugh more than a lot of comedies "You're really cooking with gas honey" |

The only bad part of the Marian/Brent story was when he/she killed Nadine

that storyline was epic. my 5 yr old daughter was in the room when i was watching the first marion appearance and she turned around and said "who is that
man?". he really did an excellent job with that part and made it both scary and hilarious.
they lost me with the whole richard/reva's disappearance and all that happy horseshit and it got way too convuluted. i have been watching again recently on and off and saw that maeve kinkaid is back. <3 vanessa, even when she was messy. |

I've been watching since '71. I got hooked by a murder trial. Leslie (Rick's mom) was on trial for killing her husband Stanley Norris
(Holly's dad), and she was being defended by lawyer Mike Bauer, and they fell in love. Leslie had previously been married to Mike's brother Ed
(Rick's dad). (It's amazing how this stuff you saw as a kid sticks with you!) Someone on YouTube recently posted a brief clip from that era,
featuring Papa Bauer, Bert, and Mike:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koHSmYcLEDQ In the early 90s, GL was one of the best hours on TV, day or night. But the show started to slip in the mid-90s, after they killed off Maureen Bauer, and then fired actor Michael Zaslow (Roger) when he became ill with ALS. It was so cold-hearted of them to dump him after he'd been with the show for 20+ years. I looked in on the show again a couple of years ago, and was shocked at the deterioration of the writing and the production values. GL has been on its last legs for a couple of years now, but this news is still sad, nevertheless. "Guiding Light" was a piece of pop Americana for 72 years, enjoyed by generations of families. It's a downer to see it come to an end. |

Those are a lot of my favorites too! (Is that Julie or Dinah because I loved Dinah but didn't really like Julie) I also liked India and Bridget off the
top of my head.
I started watching during the Mindy-Phillip-Rick-Beth days. That was the storyline that got me hooked. I <3 Marion as well. I'm dissappointed that she never made a return and started killing more people in Springfield! Blake and Ross had a sizzling sex scene when the power went out if I remember.... Harley and Mallet were my favorite super couple ever probably. Every time I watch CSI: New York I think of the original Eleni. Crazy Annie throwing herself down the stairs... Is Lillian still on the show after like 70 years? Poor Maureen and the way they unceremoniously killed her off. Vanessa faking her death and then falling in love with Kurt(?) via the internet all over again. <3 GL Lowlights: - Reva "twin" storyline - Harley getting superpowers and becoming a superhero. - Firing Michael Zaslow after all he did for the show. - Any scene with "Little" Billy.

Yeah that's Dinah up there not Julie (Camaletti? Ha, I remember her). I also loved Wendy's version of Dinah. Her getting 3 proposals in a month <3
Jewelery salesman "The 4 things you need to look for are colour, cut, clarity and carat weight." Dinah "Yeah yeah yeah I know all that. Look, here's my big concern. I knew this girl in Prague who's boyfriend got her a beautiful ring. I think he was duke or prince or something. Anyway: the diamond fell out! One day she looked down and it was gone so I want you to make sure that mine is stuck in there really well OK?" Lillian's still on the show. She and Buzz are dating. I'm sad though that we'll probably enver get Ross back. I always held out hope after his plane went down that one day Blake and he would be reunited. |

If they ever do bring back Ross it won't be the same actor. He's got a pretty big role on One Life to Live.

I used to watch this show all the times in the 90s.
I was kind of obsessed, but I grew out of it. Reva vs Annie was the most intense shit I ever watched. |
