I seem to remember a Leslie Bauer taking LSD in one episode, but I could be wrong about that. I started really watching in February of 1978, right after I got married. I loved Roger Thorpe's sexiness; was so sad when that actor developed ALS (I think) and later died. His character was scumbag gold. Chris Bernau (SP?) who played the original Alan Spaulding...wasn't he an early AIDS victim? I seem to remember he just suddenly disappeared from the soap in the mid-80's, re-appeared for a few years at the end of the 80's, and then was replaced all of a sudden and within weeks it was announced that he had died. He oozed charm, even playing a villain. I stopped watching many years ago when I actually had to begin working for a living, but I used to really love this show.

The mob was after her and every Friday they would find another way to try and kill her, and you'd have to wait until Monday to find out how she escaped another murder attempt. <3333 Yes RBB, Chris Bernau did die of AIDS in 1989. As did Dennis Parker who played cop Derek (on Edge of Night) in the early 80s. He died of AIDS in 1985 (Per imdb). He also was a porn actor before doing the soap. I know too much about soaps in the late 70s/early-mid80s. I watched pretty much all of them and read the soap magazines, etc. As if they couldn't figure out I was gay, those things should have tipped them off! Last Edited By: seaguy 09/20/09 2:44 PM. I was mostly an NBC watcher - Days of Our Lives, The Doctors, Another World, Texas, and Search for Tomorrow (after it was canceled by CBS). It's kinda sad that era has died, and it's unfortunate that in the 10 years since the cancellation of Another World that the industry hasn't successfully embraced other production models or distribution channels to keep long-term fan favorites in play.

It was a different time, and type of story. I used to watch SFT too. Ryan's Hope, AMC, OLTL, GH, ATWT, GL, EON, AW & SFT. Stayed away from most of the LA produced soaps actually. I heard that AMC is now moving to LA too. I think soaps will be off the air totally within in the next 5-10 years.

I wasn't always as popular as I am now!!! And I didn't watch all those at the exact same time. Through the years I would pick up some new ones and drop the old ones (and RH, AW, SFT & EON went off the air).

At first she was Alan's daughter with the maid given up for adoption but after hey brought her back in the 90s it was revealed that she was actually Brandon's daughter (he too diddled the maid) which makes her Alan & Alexandra's sister. Alex was none too pleased. Hated her. :) I started watching in 93. I think Roger making a scene at Nick & Mindy's engagement party. To Alexandra: "You just can't stand losing yet another man to Mindy Lewis' bed!"

Posts: 13563 (09/20/09 5:55 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	chris bernau <3. saw him on the fire island ferry in the 80's. edge of night was great. frances fischer, bill macy, dixie carter..... and sky and raven! what ever happend to larkin malloy and sharon gabet? and if someone could answer that richard /jeffrey question a page back, i would appreciate it. i quit watching when cassie married richard (or was it jeffrey?) and when i started watching again, richard had become jeffrey---was it just a strong resemblence or were they related? i was never clear on that. and since he is still alive, i have to assume that josh and reva are committing bigamy on fanfic island but it wouldn't be the first time.

GL message board at the time and we all discussed how Michael Zaslow's delivery of his lines was changing and that he couldn't spit his words out at staccato speed like he used to. We watched as it got worse and speculated on why it was occuring. I remember how horrified we all were when the diagnosis came through. And how angry we were that GL dropped Zas instead of using his illness as a story line. All My Children picked him up and he played a character with ALS who spoke with the aid of a Stephen-Hawking type computer voice. His was an especially aggressive form of ALS and he died within 24 months of diagnosis, iirc. Chris Bernau (SP?) who played the original Alan Spaulding...wasn't he an early AIDS victim? When he wasn't on the show for an extended period of time, I actually called the studio (from my work place in California -- and got away with it!!). When the told me he had "pneumonia" I knew he had AIDS. I believe developing pneumonia was a sign back then. They never announced his cause of death, but I do believe it was common knowledge that it was AIDS. He was the best. Just the best. Scenes with him and Beverly Kinsey as Alexandra just lit up the TV

I remember when they did a movie of Lucille Ball's life and Frances was cast. So perfect. I don't know the richard/jeffrey answer though, sorry. He left the show when he became too ill to show up at work, and he died of a heart attack brought on by complications from AIDS. He is buried at Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara, California.

He was a look-a-like assigned to pose as him over Europe to help roust out bad guys. He got Dinah out of jail and got her to pretend to be Princess Cassie as part of the cover. That's how they knew each other. Jeffrey married Reva and she doesn't know he's alive.
