Simon has got to be worth 5 or 6 million to even have the slightest pretension of making a dent in New York society. If you are an artist or an athlete, well, that's different. But everyone else needs serious, serious cash.

I think some of you guys are missing the sarcasm in my previous post (serves me right for being a bitch, and worse yet, talk about money). The planet I come from -- NYC. ;)

I never said it doesn't cost money to do things, or as some of you like to call it, "competing" on that "society" ladder. New York City is expensive, especially so if you want to live well, and pretty costly if you want to "keep up with the Jones", but my point was that those two, Simon and his wife, don't even have the means to really do it comfortably....no, I have no way of knowing what they have in the bank, but judging by where they live, vacation, and their respective careers, neither are in a field that has the possibility of garnering top salaries...if either one of them had come into any kind of decent inheritance, I'm sure, based on the level of desperation I see on the show, they would be living in a different neighborhood at least, instead of being part of the bridge & tunnel crowd.

As for the price of the opera tickets, I don't know if Bravo got that on their own or from those two, but it was sketchy and misleading, since they never mentioned where those two were sitting, nor did they mention if those two tickets were for a single performance or a series; I found it irritating that they gave the impression that that was the price of the average ticket, when it couldn't be further from the truth, there are pricey tickets for sure, but those are the more premium seats (parterre, orchestra, etc.), and season opening night is a big deal, but not everyone has to spend thousands on a ticket. If those two have any kind of connection at all to the "society", they would have been invited to someone's box.

please don't confuse real NYC Society with the people on this show. NYC Society is old and established.

As a native NYer, I can say that owning a townhouse in that section of Brooklyn is the same as living in a condo on Yorkville, where it looks like most of the other ladies live. Yes, Yorkville is technically the Upper Eastside, but it ain't 5th, Park, or Madison so it really doesn't trump much. And I can understand their social climbing on that level, however, their antics are too transparent for NYers. NYers see through that bullshit fast.

I don't know much about the Brooklyn real estate market, but I find it hard to believe that that townhouse is worth anywhere in the same price range as Jill or Ramona's apartments, even if they're not the prime locations/buildings. As for Simon, obviously none of us know what his job really entails, and your speculation of something bigger is certainly possible, except I have this feeling that if that were the case, they'd be bragging about it. Not to mention, if he has a job with such responsibilities, he wouldn't have all that time to run around with his wife to attend all these events and parties we see on the show.

Speaking of their houses in the Hamptons, those are definitely not in the most desirable areas...again, not saying they're cheap by any means, and they're not in the Springs, but they're not where the "real" society people are either...too new, not enough trees and shrubs, and I suspect...north of Montauk. ;)
