The dead sister was brought up as evidence of his inner conflict and what drove him into this shit all these years.
I guess. |

The dead sister thing seemed to come out of nowhere. So did the William thing.
M: "I think I'll wear the black pants today." S: "YOU HAVE TO LET GO OF THE DARKNESS! YOU CAN'T SAVE YOUR SISTER! SHE'S DEAD!!!" M: "You're right. I'll wear the khaki." S: "You can't. I forgot to pick them up from the drycleaner." M: "THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE A THOUGHTLESS BITCH WHO GAVE OUR SON AWAY!!!" Kinda forced. |

I'm glad to see the link about "what happened to William". I had forgotten all about that at the end of the series. |

The goodies I got were a poster, an episode guide, some cards, a comic book, and probably something else. It was a bitch to open the little drawer so I usually
just keep it closed.

I have the box set too, and had the same problem w/ the drawer. I was just about ready to tear the thing apart to find out what was in there. Fuckers.
I just saw the movie and it was alright. Any part w/ Mulder/Scully both in it was golden, you could tell they were giving it their all. The rest of the cast was totally phoning it in, and it showed the whole way through. I thought Skinner wasn't going to show up and then he finally appeared at the end <3 I like the scene where he was cradling Mulder in his arms, I s'pose they are saving the make-out session for the DvD. The plot itself, it troubles me that after 6 years THIS is the best they could come up w/? I mean really. I don't mind having a standalone thriller but at least make it, you know, thrilling. It was marginally serviceable, and that is probably being too polite. In any case I doubt this is the last we will see of The X-Files and Mulder/Scully, even with such a weak opening the movie will still be profitable since the budget was so low. But their next go-around will prolly be a TV movie, unless they broaden the scope of the next story (I want end of the world, not "omfg some ugly FBI lady is missing!"), go for an R-rating, and lure in a better supporting cast. With all the awesome guest stars they had over the series, it's surprising their biggest costar was Amanda Peet lol. |

Pencake and I just got back from seeing this. There were 5 other people besides us in the theater. Word of mouth has KILLED this movie.
However - I really liked it. It wasn't jaw-dropping or anything, but as a huge X-Files fan, I was just happy to see them again. I loved how Mulder was "hiding out" in Scully's house, and how he had plastered the walls with paranormal clippings. I also love how Scully's character is agnostic, yet she wears a crucifix and works at a Catholic hospital. The William thing wasn't out of place at all! She felt a strong connection to this helpless, little boy....and it made her think about how William was doing. I do not get why that puzzled so many people. Then, when Scully realized that because she had asked Mulder to help out....and he was now obsessed with the case...she mentioned his sister (after all, that was the reason that he got into the X-Files to begin with). A-dur! I also do not understand why gays and lesbians were upset over something that Scully said to the priest. I didn't hear anything offensive at all. Was it an epic movie? No. In fact, if anything, it came across as a very elaborate "series finale". The end of the story is: Mulder got involved in a case again, but didn't rejoin the FBI in some crazed X-Files mania.....and Scully wanted to believe the priest (even though she hated him), and in the end, she followed her gut instead of her head. She hates it when she and Mulder are involved in the X-Files, and she had a chance to escape it, yet she just to "not give up" and continue helping the boy. It's a conclusion to the series. As far as their lives go - if something paranormal happens, then so be it. As of now, they are both happily fucking away in that little house, and the little boy survived. Why all the bitchin'??? |

yeah i think i got a little carried away. i love the x files no matter what. seeing them together was awesome. *single tear* i think the critics themselves got
carried away in tearing it up. they were also expecting something else. i'm looking forward to the third movie.

I saw the movie tonight after finishing the series today...I must have stopped watching sometime in season eight because I remembered some of those episodes
and remembered laughing every time I saw Mulder falling in the opening credits. The last two seasons weren't as bad as I thought they would be. I think
season seven was actually the worst as far as boring standalones. The entire series definitely should have ended after season five and the first movie. They
explained the whole mythology at that point and the rest was just completely unimportant and confusing. I liked the episodes that subtly called back to Clyde
Bruckman's prediction that Scully was immortal.
One flaw in the mythology is that Mulder figures out the aliens are coming in 2012 and everybody who isn't immune, a hybrid, or living under magnetite is gonna die. He's the only one with this knowledge. So what does he do? He gives up and goes into hiding. Um, don't you want to try and save the world? The Syndicate was the only group who had any semblance of control over this thing and they all died. The aliens are unchecked, and it was shown that they were infiltrating the government with their super soldiers. You just gonna let them win? Not a very bright future for your son, wherever he is. The new movie's theme is "don't give up", and it's odd that with just four years to go Mulder seems to just be sitting idly by, having left his quest behind him. Anyway, the movie was okay, nothing special. There were several points where I wondered why they recast Julianne Moore in the role of Scully, and remarked that Duchovny looks like he's become the Smoking Man himself. Skinner's cameo seemed superfluous; he's really still at the FBI after all this time? If he is, why wasn't he involved in this case that brought Mulder and Scully back into the fold? And where's the backfill for the Mulder/Scully relationship? When we left off they were closer than ever, and now it seems like they had completely drifted apart and hadn't seen each other in ages. Xzibit and Amanda Peet's characters seemed like they were replacing Doggett and Reyes and I would have been more comfortable with them. I hope the next movie is about the actual invasion. And bring back Smoking Man again. He's been shot, pushed down the stairs, riddled with cancer, and blown to smithereens, but he's gotta have a few lives left in him. |

His official name in the lore was Cigarette-Smoking Man. Smoking Man for short, Cancer Man colloquially. The character's real name, or one of his names,
appeared to be C.G.B. Spender.
