TWIST!
In order to keep things fresh, after every ten games or so revealed I will anounce a mini list in one post. The categories will be along the lines of "games snubbed from the list", "best games I haven't played", "games that had no shot of making this list", etc... When I made the list, a lot of really good games got the shaft. You may be surprised by a few of the titles that did not crack my top 100. They do need at least some kind of recognition though. So without further ado, here is a list of five games that got snubbed from the list. These snubs are not really that shocking. The really surprising snubs are later to come on this list. Judge Dredd (Sega Genesis) ![]() ![]()
I really enjoyed this title. Dredd is kinda your typical 2D side scrolling shooting game. One of the cool features in this game is that it is not always advantageous to just blast away every bad guy. Sometimes the villains are willing to surrender, which allows you to arrest them and whisk them away on some kind of floating platform, earning you extra points. The action loosely follows the flow of the movie, and then some. When the story of the movie ends, the game goes on with some original levels for quite some time. People who are easily frustrated should stay away because this game is extremely difficult. It did not make the list because it has been eons since I played this game... and also because I just could not bring myself to rank it above any of the other titles on the list. Destroy All Humans (XBOX) ![]() ![]()
I really WANTED to love this game. It had the look and feel of an instant classic. The game is set back in the 50's/60's timeframe. Basically you play as an alien out to destroy humanity. You can do a lot of different things in the game like m.orph your appearance to fit in, fly a spaceship around and destroy stuff, etc. A vast arsenal of weapons is at your disposal. The world is huge and expansive like Grand Theft Auto, and the missions are kinda similar. I dunno though. On paper this game should be a blast... but something about it just didn't sit right with me. After awhile it became kind of a chore to sit through and beat. I am sure this game has a huge following, and I can see why. I just wasn't a huge fan. Dr. Mario (NES) ![]() ![]()
I have to start off by saying that I do really like this game. I used to spend hours with friends playing the two player mode and kicking some major ass. I like overloading my opponent with so much falling crap that they can barely do anything. Muahahaha! I am almost unbeatable at this title. However, the fun starts and ends with the two player mode. I was never able to really get into the single player mode. Which means I basically never play it unless it is against someone else. I do love Tetris, but I am not a huge fan of ripoff games like this, so I just had to leave it off the list. Sowwy. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Genesis) ![]() ![]()
This is one of those guilty pleasure kind of games for me. I was a big Michael Jackson fan as a kid and I had to pick this game up as soon as I heard about it. It was awesome! You play as Michael Jackson himself and your goal is to rescue children from a whole shitload of levels. I remember laughing the first time I heard a kid yell "Michael" when he was rescued. His attacks include punching, kicking, shooting magic sparkles (LOL) and a special attack that made everyone on the screen dance and then die. The background music to all the levels was some kind of theme based on a Michael Jackson song. I played this game more times than I could count. The only downside to it is that it is too easy, and I hate the cave level. Anyone in need of a good laugh should check this out. And the final snub.... You may find this one a bit shocking if you know me... This may anger quite a few people..... Ready? Fuck it: Final Fantasy IX (Playstation) ![]() ![]()
I enjoyed this game probably the least out of any of the next gen Final Fantasies (besides X-2, but we'll get to that later). I don't like the graphics, I don't like the characters, I don't like the story, the combat system, the difficulty level.... It goes on and on. I found it way too cartoony and lighthearted for my tastes, especially for a Final Fantasy title. It is still an okay RPG. I played through the entire thing and beat it. Took me a couple weeks. There is just something about this title that completely rubbed me the wrong way. I know this game has its fans. I know some people actually consider this the BEST FF title since 6, but I just don't see it. I measure the greatness of a game by my willingness to go back and play it again after I have beaten it. I have played through all the other FF titles multiple times. This one I have no desire to play or pick up ever again. Sorry. |

NOOOO! O_____o
Blah, FF9's my least favorite of all of the FFs, but I still love it regardless. It was just a bit medeival for my tastes; if that makes any sense. And all of the characters suck with the exception of tranny Quina. FF7 & FF8 FTW. |

I don't really like RPGs like Final Fantasy. Dunno, they always feel more like chores than games to me (level up this, collect that, etc.)
I do love Paper Mario though <3 |

One last update before I have to head off to work....
#90. Beyond/Legend of Oasis (Saturn/Genesis) ![]()
First of all, I know these are two separate games, and I don't like there being a "tie" on my list. But they are just so similar I could not decide which one I liked better than the other. I originally played Beyond Oasis for the Sega Genesis back in my late grade school, early high school days. I went to the store to rent a game, and all of the titles I wanted were not in stock. I didn't want to leave empty handed, so I picked up this title just for the heck of it. Never heard of it, didn't know what it was about or anything. WOW was I in for a shock. This game was really incredible, and I didn't put it down the whole weekend. This game was kind of like Sega's answer to the Zelda series. Stunning graphics (for it's time), smooth controls, a good combat system, immersive environments.... this game had it all. It was relatively short but it was great while it lasted. If you have never played this you MUST check it out. As for Legend of Oasis, this is the sequel that came out for Sega Saturn a few years later. This game was every bit as amazing as the first one, with even better sound and smoother graphics. It was a lot more difficult and longer in length too. I am shocked that this series has not gotten the press it has deserved. These 2 games really are phenomenal. I have my fingers crossed that Sega will wake up and do a third one before all is said and done. Couldn't find any decent YouTube clips for either game so you'll have to deal with this rambling kid playing through the original. |

FF9 was going back to its roots after FF7 and FF8 were too futuristic/modern for my tastes.

R.I.P. FF9. So what if it's the worst of the new school FFs? To not even make top 100?
