Beyond Good & Evil (Gamecube)


Before I ever played this game, I had heard a lot about it. How it was one of the best games of the year, how the story was so good, that it was a sleeper hit, the best game no one was playing, etc. I was intrigued by the concept of it, and had to go pick it up immediately. And I was very glad I did.

Let me just say, it is not as incredible as the hype made it out to be, but it was still a damn good game. From the second I turned it on, I was pulled in by the breathtaking intro and the stunning graphics. When you are playing you really feel like you are a part of this very vivid and colorful cartoon world. The controls and the combat are pretty weird, but combat is not the main focus of the game. The voice acting and the music are impeccable.

Your main character's name is Jade. The gameplay of this title is like one big mo.rph between a 3D platformer and a role playing game with Tomb Raider, Metal Gear, and Pokemon Snap elements to it. There are also some shooting and some boat levels mixed in to keep the game fresh. The action parts mainly remind me of Metal Gear. There is a lot of sneaking around going on. Sometimes if you get spotted it means instant death for you, and you have to start over from the last checkpoint. It defo gets frustrating at times.

To sum it up, this title is a very interesting and unique one, with a great story mixed in to keep you going. It morphs a lot of the best elements from different games into one enjoyable experience. I would definitely pick it up if you have never played it before.
