The argument by the Cirietards is that she was screwed by a last-minute switch from a F3 to a F2, due to James' evacuation. If the original plan was a F3, then James evacuation should have been treated like Bruce's evacuation in EI - no TC needed for that episode. In Micronesia, this would have resulted in a finale with a F5 reduced to a F3, instead of the finale we ended up with (a F4 reduced to a F2). If the original plan was a F2, then why start the jury with the tenth place finisher, Eliza, leaving a jury of eight, and a real "danger" of a tie vote ?

With the jury beginning with Eliza, I believe that the original plan was a F3 with seven jurors. With James' evacuation and Alexis' injury, there might have been some concern that they could not participate on the jury to the end of the game, so the F3 was changed to a F2. There is also the possibility that the producers wanted to "blindside" the remaining players by a last-minute "twist" of a F2. Who knows ?

The final challenges were pretty simple (ie, there was no giant mazes like the Vanuatu F4 IC), so I don't think that was the reasoning. And they have dropped/changed challenges in prior seasons, so I don't think that they would have a problem with dropping a simple challenge this season.

Oo.... did you get your answer to this... I haven't had a chance to read all 20+ pages since the last time i was able to check in but... Several years ago (around S7 - PI ) I read an article about how a 12-year-old girl came up with one of the games - the word scramble game where Burton lost his immunity due to a mis-spelling - and the article went on to talk about how Survivor comes up with the different games/challenges and what they have to do to gwt everything ready.

The most interesting part of the article consisted of about 3 lines... and that was how SEG has to get prior approval from the American Radio & Television Control Board for:
1. the Number of games to be played and
2. The type of game (ie the "nature") of the game including its name and instructions and what the game was for.

The order that the games are played are flexible, as are when (ie day or night, or 12 hours apart, etc). There was also mention of extenuating circumstances like tiebreakers and double boots... the rules are prearranged for an "as need" basis. The reason given in this article was that Survivor is a game show and therefore has to follow certain gaming laws as they apply to game shows.

So.... what this means for the FvsF show is that with the number of evacuations... this actually changed how the number of participants left lined up to the number of games that still had to be played out... according to the gaming license. So, even though SEG may have planned on there being a F3.... with James last minute evac, there was now an "extra" game when you compared the number of games left to the number of people left (assuming F3). Because the last game had to be played out (according to the license), this meant that the last immunity challenge would actually result in a F2.

This is the most likely answer that I know of.... That SEG was faced with too many pre-approved games to result in an F3... so they had to continue on and make it an F2. This makes sense to me having worked for Gaming Control in Canada in my younger years.... there are so many legalities when it comes to competition for money....I am sure that this F2 was not planned, but an extenuating circumstance based on the gaming license they had.

I have tried to find the article, but I can't remember what magazine i read it in... I want to say EW... but i searched their site and couldn't come up with anything.... I try looking again, but it feels like a needle in a haystack at the moment.

you're welcome everyone.... i felt like this was the most logical course of events too, so i thought i'd share it.... although i'm not 100% sure of all the rules that they'd have to follow... the article wasn't very in depth on American Gaming Law.

however, i think it would be safe to assume that anything "booked" for immunity challenges, would probably have to be used in some fashion, where reward challenges are more flexible (they don't directly affect the outcome). Therefore a game that has been assigned "reward challenge" status could mean that they wouldn't have to use them or could move it into an immunity challenge if required.

I think too, in the earlier days, there were probably larger loopholes.... because they hadn't had an evacuation before Michael (or a quit before Osten), so that would have been safely covered off legally as an "unforeseen" event. In subsequent seasons though, these scenarios would have to be taken into account since it can no longer be called unforeseen.

interesting to note that there was a list of premerge challenges at MESS. Thanks Craig. I haven't been over to MESS in ages... when i have more time, i'll pop into take a look.
