Eh, it was pretty much what I was expecting. At this point, I doubt we'll ever see a new season that tops the ratings of the seasons that came before it.

Well it managed to retain the same audience in terms of number of viewers as the Micronesia final, which is pretty good. I hope it can get in to the 13m's like the first hour again though.

13 million viewers, which is very solid in today's TV climate. New shows that get 8 or 9 million viewers are considered hits now, so Survivor is still doing very well.

I think it's still possible. China had a slight uptick in its average over Fiji after premiering with 1.3 million less. If it can't stabilize again and keeps dropping the way it has been I can only see it going on for maybe three more years. Unless they move it to once a year during the summer or something which depends on whether or not 7-8 million viewers would outweigh production costs.

Everything else is dropping in the numbers too though. My Name Is Earl sure had massive losses. Survivor's total number of viewers and rating compared to seasons past is 100% IRRELEVENT. All that matters is the viewers and ratings versus other shows, in particular those on at the same time as it. If five years from now Survivor is down to a 2 rating with 5 million viewers, but it still wins its timeslot and is in the top 15-20 for the week, the format will be exactly the same.

They need to move survivor 18 to the summer. If it won't, it will be the first time that survivor will get less then 10 million.
The only way survivor will move beyond 20 is, if it will be a summer show which is what made the show.

Oh, and I wonder, does anyone think the ratings could surge if we have a great season like I suspect this is?

I love how every single season there is such an insanely amount of idiotic posts in this thread which never come to fruition and do not take into count context or even common sense. I could explain how the real TV world works 80 billion times and the idiotic posts will keep on coming. @_@

Excellent ratings for a 17th season! No slip from last season really, and if you haven't noticed, TV viewers in general are getting lower every week. This is a great sign for the show's potential.

It all depends on what CBS considers cost efficient, which I think is 10 million viewers with 3.5 ratings in the 18-49 demo.
