Logically it seems that way, but do we have concrete proof on that? Somebody mind posting an article where it confirms that?

http://www.bsu.edu/news/article/0,1370,-1019-1803,00.html There's a few, but it's pretty well know that the cost of scripts greatly increases how much a show costs. Reality shows don't have that. There are way fewer people on staff, and less people to pay. Reality TV is the smartest thing that a network can produce and televise. |

For what it's worth, I do remember reading an article post-Micronesia/pre-Gabon about how the cost of 'Survivor' was increasing with the
change-over to HD, since the equipment is more expensive and more fragile. But I'd bet that even with that increase, the cost of 'Survivor' is
still much cheaper than scripted shows.
I remember a few years back thinking how ridiculous it seemed that we have this show where 16 people spend 39 days putting themselves through hell for a million dollar prize, when over on NBC you had all 6 cast members of 'Friends' making that exact same amount PER EPISODE. |

I remember reading in 2001 that the Outback cost about $5 million to produce, which is incredibly cheap. TAR? Not so much.

Wow, $5 million? I'm sure they have advertising dollars to cut from the pie too, but you've gotta figure with the ratings that season got (wasn't
it #1 overall?), CBS probably made at minimum 100 times that. @_@

I bet Big Brother costs like 10,000 dollars or less. It's a low-budget show, for sure.

That would be interesting (like a sub section on wikipedia or something ;) ) to see exactly how much reality shows cost and then see how much certain seasons
cost.

EPISODE 1 - 13.795
EPISODE 2 - 13.67 EPISODE 3 - 12.284 EPISODE 4 - 11.98 EPISODE 5 - 12.887 RECAP - 8.15 EPISODE 6 - 11.21 EPISODE 7 - 11.32 11.32 according to tvbythenumbers. Slight increase which is good I suppose. Wish it could get back to levels of episode 1/2/5, but the break along with idol killed the momentum. But it did beat everything in numbers for the night, including Harper's Island. |

Sorry for posting late today, gang. Was off shooting a commercial. Occasionally I do actually have to do some work instead of just sitting here posting on
Sucks all day! :-)
The overnights from Zap2It: EPISODE 01: 8.1/13 EPISODE 02: 7.9/13 EPISODE 03: 7.1/11 EPISODE 04: 7.1/11 EPISODE 05: 7.4/12 RECAP EPISODE: 5.0/8 EPISODE 06: 6.6/11 EPISODE 07: 6.7/12 Alright, we're back on the rise. And I do like how this article mentions Survivor kicking off CBS' "ratings mastery". It would be nice if we could get back to pre-recap numbers though. |

Yea I saw the 11.something million and freaked, but it's not so bad in comparison. I really hope it can continue to climb up until the finale. I honestly
blame the advertising, it's horrible.

If you go to TV Tattle, there's a Forbes article about the top moneymaking shows on TV (the revenue they bring in for the networks as opposed to actual
ratings).
Survivor is #9 overall, and the #2 show on CBS (behind Two and a Half Men). It ain't going anywhere. |

Yikes at the slide into 11 million viewers. I hope it at least goes back up to 12.

13th show overall for Gabon and 16th for Tocatins; third highest rated reality show, seems still quite good to me regardless of increasingly meaningless total
viewer numbers.

Survivor still remains the show with the most loyal fans. I'm really hoping for a jump back into 12 million tomorow though, that'd relaly give us a
boost.

It's amazing why some people think that Survivor is in danger, when it's not.
