I mean it has been #1 for 11 weeks now....yet they keep buying her singles too... it's the quality of music that makes the difference. Carrie had it with Some Hearts....she didn't with CR...it's pretty simple to figure out.

It's kind of amazing that she released 5 singles for sale before the cd came out and yet she still sold almost 3 million cd's in her first 3 months of sales. People are buying not only the single by the boatloads but the whole cd also. You would think they would buy one or the other. Taylor is hot right now. Even hotter v Carrie in her prime. Next year it will probably be someone new. It's just kind of phenomenal when you think that Taylor didn't have instant success with idol behind her and a built in fanbase of millions from the day she released her cd. That she was able to catch up to Carrie so quickly and then pass her with just her second cd is kind of mind boggling. Carrie's not hurting though so it really doesn't matter does it? Carrie seems to be settling in nicely to set herself up for a yearly cd release and 1 1/2 million to 2 million in sales on a consistant basis. That sounds like a good career to me. Especially for a girl who had given up on a music career and pictured herself a journalist at this point in her life. Yes, except there's an iTunes option to complete the CD after buying a single, so Taylor's numbers are actually skewed insanely by people completing their Fearless CD, having bought her first five singles. Just think of all the people who did that! CD sales aren't everything you know. Taylor has not passed Carrie in anything else. Hotness? Nope. Opry member? Never. Grammy? Of course not. Anything that matters to the true music fans, Taylor will never achieve. She just can't hack it vocally, and thankfully a lot of people see that. The minute she slips then sales aren't what really counts. Those are some attributes of me, and obviously you are slow, Greeny, so I can forgive ya, hun. ;) Yes, Carrie's sales are a factor that make Carrie the best Idol ever. Not to mention her multiple awards and of course the obvious and most impressive: youngest Opry member ever. But of course to Yelly fans, she's best because she won the Grammy 1st! Doesn't matter that she's only won two (same year). She was first, so therefore this trumps Carrie's multiple wins in multiple years. Makes lots of sense.

Hotness isn't one of my criteria since I'm a dude and I like alot of male singers. Alot of people aren't country fans so opry really isn't a huge criteria either. Grammy's are nice but the list of great legendary artists that never won a grammy is a long one indeed. Three of my favorite bands come to mind right off the cuff. Queen, Led Zeppelin and The Doors. They are certainly something to strive for but I don't think saying that they are an important criteria to a true music fan is a good statement. Again I would have to say it's the songs themselves that matter the most. Interpretation of the song would be second on my list. Vocal perfection isn't necessary as long as you deliver good or catchy lyrics in a way that makes them believable. Okay and good beat helps too. Country isn't one of my most listened to styles of music but what I've heard of Taylor Swift what she lacks in vocals she makes up for with catchy songs with fun lyrics. at hotness being one of your points of things that matter to true music fans. That explains alot of why you are a Carrie fan I think.

I agree with you, quickstart! But good vocals is key to me in music. Most of today's music is just a bunch of people who can't sing. Hell, take Britney, Taylor, and Miley. They aren't successful because they are great: corporations put millions of dollars into marketing them, and it paid off, mainly with the teen female crowd, who seems susceptible to that type of thing. Nothing wrong with it, but do I respect or admire it? no. It's just that Taylor isn't fucking country, and it is wrong that she's in that genre. Sure, her first album gets a maybe, but her 2nd is one of the most Pop albums on the Billboard 100. It's crazy, and IMO, she should be condemned by country stations like previous remixers before her were. I don't like the double standard.

She lost a ton of weight, refused to go out without makeup, and then they got her on the cover of every magazine known to man. It's all marketing my friend. All marketing. Don't kid yourself. Carrie benefits from it just as much as the next overexposed artist. In Carrie's case it may be backfiring on her based on her latest sales. Ironically she sold more when she was being sold as the chubby aw shucks gal from american idol. Now she's all glam and her cd sales are slacking. It may just be a coincidence but maybe not? She seems to be picking up the little girls love the barbie image and the horny men who want like to drool over her outfits that seem to grow more and more skimpy every time she appears on tv but at the cost of the men and women who loved her so much on idol for her down home attitude. She still has the voice but unless she can get some better songs for her next cd I'm not sure what she can do to get back to what she was when she left idol and reconnect with that part of the fanbase. A pretty voice only takes you so far. She needs to start feeling the songs she sings all the times and not hit and miss. She also needs better songs on her next cd. just my opinion of course but it's one I think alot of people share as evidenced by her he slacking sales. She's a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice but I'll just pop in some hearts cd and drool over her latest magazine in that case. I may be rare but I don't want to hear someone sing the phone book. Sing me good music or shut up

BHC was huge and got her a ton of sales. Not 2 mention I don't see anyone selling 7 million ever again. Country music artists don't sell nearly as much as pop ones. They mostly make thier money from touring.

The BHC is just what I'm talking about it. If she had had even one song anywhere near the quality of BHC she would have hit 5 million in sales I think. The problem is that the strongest song on carnival ride would only be about number 6 or 7 in strength on some hearts atleast for me. Carrie tried to mimic the success of BHC with last name, even tying it to the video but people just didn't buy it. pop radio didn't pick it up like her marketing team expected. With the next cd she needs a big hit like BHC but without trying so hard to make BHC part 3. Original is the way she needs to go in my opine I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Taylor Swift hit 6 million with her current cd. She is already almost halfway there on just one and a half singles. The cd shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon sales. I think she is a shoe-in for 5 million which is an improvement over her first cd which came out during a healthier sales timeframe.

This song is the perfect example of what I was saying a couple days ago about when Carrie sings other styles of music she sounds like a country singer singing a different style of music. Her vocals on this are one million percent countrified. The song itself lyrically sounds like an Ashlee Simpson, Lindsey Lohan or Miley Cyrus song. Sung by one of them it might do ok on pop. With Carrie's delivery it just doesn't strike me as a crossover potential song. I don't hear pop potential at all in Carrie's version of the song. Sorry.
