Why does Maher call himself a libertarian when he isn't?

Why do you say he isn't?

He believes in government intervention for economic matters, he harps about John Edwards all the time

You're right, he does.
Are there degrees of libertarianism? Or is it all or nothing? |

Its minimal government involvement in anything, although some libertarians like Milton Friedman for instance approved of FDRs New Deal programs

I think there can definitely be different levels of Libertarianism much like being Republican or Democrat does. He simply believes that for certain big ass
scary shit the gov't should be the one to rise to the occasion and fix it. Katrina is a big example on his list. Where do you see him harping on John
Edwards? He loves John Edwards and has had him on several times.....

Maher like John Edwards as you said, but he'd be terrible on the economy. Have you noticed how even France is becoming less regulated and Edwards wants a populist state? I cry over the speculated loss of the value of the dollar |

As much as I like John Edwards and some of his work I do agree he is not right for the presidency. France is becoming that way because their Prez WORSHIPS the
United States. My dream....8 years of Hillary and then Obama will be ready to run the country for the next 8. Sigh.....a girl can dream can't she?????

This week, Bill welcomed Richard Belzer, Martha Raddatz, Herbie Hancock, and Amy Holmes. Plus via satellite, Merle Haggard.
Pretty good show because everyone got to have their say and no one was shot down by someone over talking everyone else. Balanced forum tonight. Amy Holmes's segment was interesting as was Bill's comment that this was done in LA and not SC so the outcome might have been the same, but the reasons were not. Poor Merle. He had a tough time of it tonight. I love these "meet the people" segments Bill is doing now. He is damn good at it and the one woman who shot down Rudy by saying "except that he put the terror watch group in the Twin Towers" was spot on! I still miss New Rules and his end of the show "rants". They almost always made me applaud the tv. |

This week, Bill welcomed Frank Lutz, Darrell Issa, Kim Gandy, and Clarence Page. Plus, author, Matt Taibbi.
Ssts at the dancing thing, but I loved when he yelled "Can I please have my fucking writers back?!?" "I can't quit you Frank". I know I'm supposed to hate him, but I love watching him do his thang with the focus groups. Poor Bill. Every topic he tried to bring up shot right over their heads.... Matt Taibbi is my new god. I love him. "T-Minus 2 minutes to Bullshit" |

I thought Adam Goldberg was really good this week, and Jeremy Scahill is always entertaining.

Scarbarough is usually not too bad when he is on Bill Maher as apposed to when he's on his own show, or even when he has Maher on his show(which is always
pre-recorded). Scarbarough knows Maher will call him out on his bullshit too much.

Would it kill Bill to have panels with at least 2 females regularly?
I think 2 weeks ago he had the 3 person regular panel as all males, and then the added person who joined the panel was male as well. I like him and his views but sometimes can't stand how he's sexist. It's not just that, it's comments and the way he treats some female interviewees as well.... |

I agree Kudrow. Love the show, but his sexist attitude is a little too much sometimes.
