The crocs fad has gone the way of the hoola hoop. Now it's all about gladiator shoes. My emerging market investments are doing FAHbulous. My strategy: I
only invest in countries that are on the U.S. State Dept. Terrorist Watch List. Talk about growth opportunities.

Sounds like Weemsie needs to stick with a mutual fund since he's not smart enough to play the market.

I recall an article I read online last week about the disconnect between the stock market and the economy.
Anytime there is such an article, it should have been a very clear SELL signal. Southeast Asia went through this in 97 and 98. It took more than five years for the financial system to recover and all along the way, there was no shortage of people talking up the market. On every market rally, the banks would raise capital and then immediately apply it to provisioning, driving the market down again. The process would then start again. Suckers were pulled in each time. Does anyone really believe that there is not more pain ahead? |

My 401(k) is down over $4,000 from this date last year, and that's with $8,500 of my hard-earned money poured into that black hole.

Though it has lasted a couple months longer than I thought, I think we are nearing the end of this recession. The next week or two will be pretty volatile,
and will continue to drift negative until the Dow reaches the mid 10000 (another negative 6-8%). We'll hopefully have the begininnings of a sustainable
recovery after that. Tomorrow will probably be heavy trading and volatile, since the foreign markets are doing pretty badly, though I actually think
Friday's close will be slightly positive (I could be very wrong).
There are a large number of companies out there that are pretty undervalued right now. Some well established companies have very low P/E's and high EPS compared to their historical values, and a lot have continued to grow at a reasonably reduced rate. Good time to be a value investor. I could be wrong about the bottom, but I'm pretty sure we will end up showing a positive in the market by the end of the 3rd quarter, and the end of the year will be very good. |
