Episode 4 - Secret Scene #1: Earl Knows The Game
Earl explains what he believes to be the key to winning the game, before proceeding to form a new alliance with former rivals, Aras and Terry.
Malakal Tribe ("Favorites") - Day 10
<The camera shows underwater footage of a stingray swimming through the shallow ocean waters, and then cuts ahead to show an aerial view of several tropical islands. A blurry view of the Malakal tribe's flag is shown, before the camera sharpens its image, and then fades into a wide view of the nine Malakal members sitting around their fire and eating breakfast. Earl is shown next>
Earl - CONFESSIONAL: The last time I did Survivor, I made it all the way to the Final Two, <A view of both Ian and Earl sitting beside each other is shown> and <short pause> you always want to make sure that you have the upper-hand. <Earl can be seen eating a spoonful of rice> You know, you want to kindof survey the land and see if you can figure out everybody's next move, <A clip of several other Favorites gathered around the fire is shown next> and you have to make your own move to counter that. <The camera focuses back in on a thoughtful-looking Earl> That's what, I think that's the key to winning the game… <The camera cuts ahead to show the four Malakal men talking in a group>
Earl: You know, we need to have an alliance with you two guys <Terry now says "Yeah"> because the women are all aligning, <A rapid clip of the five women sitting in the shallow ocean waters is shown> so we need to counter that before they get a chance to make their move. <Aras is shown subtly nodding his head, before the camera focuses in on Terry>
Terry: <to Earl> I'm all for that. <Another view of the four men is shown> You know, Ami, that's her thing, so <pause> it makes a lot of sense… <The camera zooms back in on Terry again>
Terry - CONFESSIONAL: Aras had been putting out some feelers with Ian; <short pause> you know, trying to make some inroads there, <Both Aras and Ian are now shown> and I'd been working on Earl, so I knew it was only a matter of time before they wanted to start something up… <Terry is now shown shaking Earl's hand>
Terry: <to Earl> I trust you and need you… <Earl now shakes Aras' hand, as Ian shakes Terry's>
Earl: All four of us. <Another close-up view of Terry is then shown, as the camera focuses on him>
Terry - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I'm confident with Earl and Ian; <short pause> hopefully Brooke is gonna be on board. <The camera fades out to show Brooke talking to Eliza> That's why you never give up in this game, man, <laughs> and <short pause> if Aras and I can make it to a swap, game on. <Terry can be heard saying something inaudible, as the camera goes to Ian>
Ian: <to Terry> Final Four, and Brooke… <The camera zooms out to show all four Malakal men>
Earl: We have to get Brooke <Terry can now be heard saying "I agree"> because I don't see how any of the other girls would switch, but Brooke, <A quick clip of Brooke is now shown next> you know, Brooke gets nervous and she doesn't want to talk about it… <Terry is shown again>
Terry: If she was with us, then yeah, that could get us to the Final Four, definitely… <Aras is shown>
Aras: Yeah; and I would have your guys' backs. <The camera scrolls across the four castaways again, before zooming back in on both Earl and Terry>
Terry - CONFESSIONAL: We finally made some allies, <Another wide view of the four Malakal men is shown> but, um, <short pause> even so, the strategy is still to continue winning Immunity. <A close-up view of Aras is now shown> We've got a pretty good run going, and I have no intentions of letting up. <A prominent drumbeat is heard, as the screen abruptly fades out>
Episode 4 - Secret Scene #2: Mary in the Middle
In this uncut confessional, Mary discusses her position in the tribe heading into their third-straight Tribal Council, and explains why she feels caught in the middle.
Mary - CONFESSIONAL: Tonight, Airai has to go to another Tribal Council; um, our third Tribal Council in a row, and I feel really conflicted about my vote. It seems like the tribe is running in two completely different directions: the girls all want to vote for Mikey, and some other people in the tribe want to break up Alexis and Natalie. Joel's saying he wants to keep Natalie because she works harder than Alexis, but Tracy and Kathy think that Natalie's maybe a little too good of a manipulator.
Kathy's making a lot of jokes about Natalie being a Fembot, which actually is really funny. Um, she definitely keeps us entertained even though she's a little nuts. <laughs>
I've definitely made personal bonds with both Alexis and Natalie, but I would feel a lot more comfortable about keeping Alexis. At the same time, I also really like Mikey; we get along, but my biggest concern with Mikey would be that he runs his mouth a little too much sometimes and that rubs some people in the tribe the wrong way.
I'm okay with Natalie going if that's what the tribe decides, but I think my vote tonight will go towards Tracy just because I'd rather not vote for Mikey or one of the girls, and I'm anticipating Kathy being immune, so I really want to make my vote disappear tonight, but I'm probably going to vote for Tracy and not go with the majority on this one.
You know, I think I'm doing a really good job in the game, yeah. I made my alliances that will hopefully get me into the next stage of the game, and I think I have a pretty good personal relationship with everyone left on the tribe; hence why tonight's vote is so hard… <laughs>
I think, assuming Natalie goes tonight, um, I'll have quite a bit of control in the tribe after this point because I'll be the swing vote again should we lose another Immunity. There'll be the three of Tracy, Jason, and Kathy, and then Joel and Mikey, and I think Alexis will come their way making it a three-three vote, so I would be the swing.
You know, I really like everyone in this tribe; I was approached by Jason and Kathy about being the fourth member in their alliance after the Tribal Council tonight, and you know what? I think it's gonna come down to which group can give me the best sell. It's Survivor.
I did explain to them that I was probably going to vote for Tracy, and I think they understand. I'm not trying to do anything sketchy at all; I don't have any other plans that I'm not telling them about. Um, it's just simply a case of not wanting to vote for the people that everyone else is voting for.
The other side of that coin would be for Alexis, Mikey B, Joel, and myself to join back up and vote out Tracy because she's probably the most powerful woman on the tribe right now. Um, next to Natalie, if Natalie goes, Tracy will definitely be seen more as a threat because I think they're both really strategizing to get their alliances far in the game.
I'm totally not looking forward to Tribal Council, but at the same time, it's important for me to see how the votes go before I can really determine any next steps.
I do feel like I basically know what's going on in the tribe at all times. I've been kindof the one who's buzzing around, working a lot, just being friendly with everybody, and I definitely believe I have a good game.
