Yeah I can see why I'd be hard to predict at times, at times I've wondered how things being too predictable can ruin an episode for me sometimes (like I recall the S14 F5 episode was boring to me since the outcome was basically given to us in the previous episode with James and Lisi discussing flipping then vs next round), and other times not bother me at all. Maybe it's how some episodes like this have more personal conflict between the survivors that causes entertaining drama, I don't know.Yeah, I understand. I guess it is good for me to be surprised though - I always look forward to what you give the episodes. I do always recall that Fiji Episode though as probably one of the worst for the reason you said. And I know it's hard to explain why you like an episode or not, but definitely with some entertaining conflict, that should help. My reasoning for Randy being able to pull off an underdog win I wrote back then still seems pretty plasible, though I think he'd a bit more of a gamer and a bit less of a hothead then like I said at the time.Yeah, that's definitely possible because we've already seen how he's had to adapt himself and his strategy quite a bit, so that's a good point. My GC reasoning though is like blown to bits on him being a loner with a horrible social game. The only way I see GC still winning as an underdog is by playing a Terry Deitz merge game, having only the immunity necklace as his ally after landing in the minority, but you don't seem to like having very long individual immunity streaks by one person, I think the most in a row ever was three for you.Yeah, I think 3 is the most I've ever had (JP and James, and maybe someone else). I don't like to have the same person win all the time because then it becomes too predictable, I think. Marcus is an interesting possibilty for a dominator right now in my opinion. Though it hasn't been outright stated, he just gives me the feeling your fanfic that he thinks he's smart about how he tries to run things, but that the others like Bob are just letting him think he's running things and letting him make himself into a big target... Marcus in a way looks kind of like the figurehead of his alliance right now, he acts like the leader, he thinks he's the leader that's running the show, but he's really on the outside of their group. People like that who become figureheads often get used and thrown away when the outsiders are gone (or when their alliance falls apart), they also tend to be the #1 target when their group lands in the minority, because the other side thinks they're the leader. What I'm trying to say here is... editing wise I think Marcus has the potential to become a dominator who blows it, but realisticly with how he's been shown to play the game so far, he doesn't seem like he's playing a game that can get him to the end.That's really interesting and really well thought-out, and I think you're probably right on about everything you said there. Overall, another great post! I enjoyed it! :) |

I just got around to reading your episode notes and I have one comment to make. You compare Ace/Paloma to Corinne/Michelle, but there is a difference. With Ace/Paloma, it was one episode where Paloma called Ace's yoga stuff stupid and then they were both INV in the second half of the first episode and then they hated each other in the third. It made sense 'cause of that opening annoyance. With this, you go from friends to invisible to hatred.Yep, you're right. I guess for me it wasn't really trying to show why they hated each other so much, but the edit was about supporting Randy/Ken's comment that Corinne and Michelle were so similar and that's why they clashed (Randy said there was no real difference between them). They're edits were the same in every episode (with Corinne always getting a bit more face time since she lasted longer), and they were always shown in the same light - mostly as the complainers. So there was a point to the edit, but I know it wasn't that explained. Good point though about how Ace/Paloma was different. I was just saying that I personally felt that their level of disdain came a bit out of the blue, but I agree Michelle/Corinne did too. |

I liked it a lot, as usual. I know that's my answer every week, but I always mean it. I truly did think that Gillian would go home once Kota won an immunity. And then you delved into the Michelle vs. Corinne showdown and I still viewed it as a red herring to a Gillian boot. So you definitely left me guessing. I'm definitely liking the Fang tribe more, by the way. I find their tribe dynamic much more interesting. Last week I asked you about how both Michelle and (I think) Corinne fit into this dynamic. And I think you did a great job in answering that.Thanks. Glad to hear that you liked the episode, and that you were a bit surprised by Gillian not being voted out. At least it wasn't too predictable then. Not surprised to hear that about Fang at all - I happen to agree, even though I still think the Kota tribe has potential. Yeah, part of the reason I felt okay about cutting Corinne and Michelle from Episode 2 because I knew they would be a huge part in this episode. Sugar telling Jeff the people she's closest with reminded me so much of Australia and Jerri. I love trying to parallel your stories with the CBS show.True, and now people (ie. Crystal/GC) are definitely taking notice of Sugar and it could make her vulnerable just like it did to Jerri. Corinne at Tribal council, no question. Also loved her "the people who aren't good enough to be on Fang are on Kota" line. The elitism is perfect.Thank you. Hopefully she'll continue to provide some entertainment this season. I'll explain this further then, since you asked. My favorite edgic rating is CPP for many reasons. I love complex people better than the hero or villian that normally people root for. I love to hear everything from alliance building, why episode two is almost always my favorite, to one's thought process. I really don't like negative or neutral ratings as much, even though they are fun to watch. I like people to root for because they're in a positive light.Thanks for the explanation. I agree that I like CPP edits too, and there has definitely been a major decline in the number of them, probably since around Guatemala or Exile Island. I know Palau had a few and I think it dropped off since then, especially for young males as you said. I just went back and checked by charts to see which CPP edits I've had. Joel had one in Micronesia, and surprisingly, he's the same age as Dan although I tend to think of Joel as being a lot older than that. Tracy was also CPP in Micronesia. In China, only Leslie was CPP. Here's an interesting one: Jamie Newton was CPP in All-Stars, so he fits all four of the categories you mentioned, although he wasn't as positive overall as some of the others. Alex Angarita got CPP in my Fiji, although again it wasn't quite such an obvious positive. There were no CPPs in Cook Islands, although JP had potential to be one if his edit was a little bit stronger. It was only women who got CPPs in Guatemala and Exile Island, so of all of my seasons, only Jamie fits so far and he is probably an atypical choice at that. I got sick on New Years, as did my girlfriend (so then rumors got started that made me more grumpy). I'm feeling much better twelve days into the sickness, and I even though I've gotten both of my parents sick on the break. I hope you'll get to feeling better!Thanks. I'm coming up onto a week now and still not much better overall. I hardly ever get sick though, so this is pretty rare. I'm in my third year of university now and I haven't missed a day of school since before high school! :S |

Sorry, GF! I only have time for edgic this week. But I loved the episode, I really wish I had time to comment. Michelle versus Corinne was epic.Hi Apollo Italiano! That's okay - no worries about not having time to do the full survey. I completely understand. I'm glad to hear that you loved the episode though and that you liked the Michelle/Corinne conflict! All of those Edgic ratings look great, and I'm starting to look at the spreadsheet now and formulate the "official" ratings, so this will definitely help. Hmm. I feel that there was some tone there, but it definitely is tricky. Only one person has rated him N (which was what I was going for), but if it goes to M, I don't know that there was any strong positives to balance out those minor negatives. Maybe the fact that Michelle was a bitch to him makes him seem a little sympathetic? I'm not sure, so I wil ldefinitely have to review this one. This is going to be another tricky one for me. Glad to see you gave him a positive, although I'm not sure it will be enough for this to be his final rating. It's quite a difference from the real show though - GC being positive would be pretty much unheard of! Yes, I try to be sparing with these two. I could definitely see either or both of them getting this rating. I think Michelle probably earned it more than Corinne, but you're right that Corinne had the vicious personal attack so maybe it is warranted. Thanks for that Contenders list! Very good choices there. I don't think a girl is winning, though. Haha.This would have to be a huge surprise winner, but not many of their edits look like they could be viable for this to happen. but I enjoyed reading through all of your thoughts and you bring up some great points, as always!
Another great episode! Your third episodes are usually one of the better ones of the season (Erik's idol blindside, Lisi getting voted out of All-Stars, Sylvia quitting, Margaret campaigning against Bobby Jon) and this had some great moments in it. Nice to see the good and evil themes really coming into play on Fang, with both heroes and villains banding together to vote out the "bad apple." It was nice to finally see Kota winning two challenges, one by a slim margin at first and the other was sheer CRYSTAL OWNAGE! Speaking of that, I always love the physical challenges, one of the big times to read the gray text. Good to see Michelle emerge as more of a character after becoming "the girl who couldn't read a map" in Episode 1. And you definitely brought some schadenfreude with her comeuppance in the Immunity Challenge. While Kota wasn't really shown as much and it was kind of known that they would win through editing, the fireworks at Fang made up for it. And your Tribal Council was probably one of the best you've ever written with the drama and arguing and everyone getting an opinion on the matter. Thank you. I agree that the 3rd episode has generally been one of the best - this season I'm not so sure though. So far, it looks like it will rate between Episode 1 and 2. I probably like the first 2 better this time, which is definitely a rarity. But I enjoy this one too. It's interesting that the real show had that good vs. evil storyline at the end, and this one sortof has that at the beginning (although I didn't think of it in those terms until recently), and it sortof carries through into other parts of the season as well - but there's no clear recognition of one group callign themselves "good people," I don't think. Glad to hear that you liked the physical challenge - I always enjoy writing those two, and it's funny to see Crystal as an actual challenge threat here as opposed to the show. The part about Michelle not reading the map was to show that she didn't take responsibility for her failures, which was also emphasized in Episode 3. I definitely need to learn some of these terms because I had to look up what "schadenfreude" meant - that's definitely what my goal was, although I didn't know there was a specific term for it. Corrine really did fulfill her promise and go all out with her insults to Michelle, though they bordered on real-life Corrine with her comments about her divorce. And it definitely set some things up when Gillian and Ken agreed that Corrine complained. I wonder how Gillian will react to those two throwaway votes. Thank you. I don't think Gillian will have a huge reaction to the votes, but Corinne having a huge reaction to those statements wouldn't be a shocker. I'd give it an 8. Great because of Tribal Council, but I had to take some off for the lack of Kota. Great episode though! Thanks for the 8. That's probably about what I would give it, although I didn't really think it lacked Kota. I think Kota had more scenes leading up to the Immunity Challenge. Charlie and Paloma: Did it ever strike you to perhaps vote for Corrine and try to pin it on Ken and Randy to send Corrine and Ace after those two? It would've been very interesting to see if they could've pulled off what Terry and Aras couldn't. This is a great idea, but considering that I myself did not think of it, I'm going to have to say that Charlie and Paloma didn't consider it either. It would have certainly been interesting though. Personal question for you: What are some of your favorite Tribal Councils that you've written? They could be anything from huge arguments to playing the idol. I just wanted to see which ones you look back on and find to be great. Hmm... fun question. I think most of the ones I think of are from the more recent seasons because well, they're more recent and because I could probably write some of the earlier good ones and make them a lot better now. I kindof have to say the Margaret one though just because I think it was the first "standout" Tribal Council, although as I said, I could probably improve it a lot. Morgan's TC is probably one of my favorite though because she talked about her fate in the game and then got the purple rock. From Exile Island, for some reason the Episode 4 Tribal stands out to me. It's Vivero's first Tribal and there was a lot of conflict going on surrounding Bobby. Other than that one, I think the one where RM used the idol and Terry was voted out was probably a good one, although I probably haven't even looked at it in about 2 years. Cook Islands had a few good Tribal Councils. I like the one where Adam and Rebecca were booted because it was the first double Tribal of this kind and it caught people off guard, though I'm still not sure exactly why Rebecca was voted out. Even though the Cristina boot could be considered shocking and entertaining, it's not really one of my favorites. From Fiji, I always liked the first Tribal Council for some reason, although I know there's nothing really special about it. The one where Edgardo/Alex are voted out is good. There could be another one during the early phases of the merge that I'm missing. I also like all of the TCs in the finale, and this is definitely one of the best Final Tribals, I think. For All-Stars, my memory of this season is pretty foggy overall, but I like the Tribal Council where Lisi was voted off, for sure. I think the Bruce/Danielle one was probably pretty good, and possibly the Tina one too because I remember the Casaya people getting really cocky during that one. I really like the Final TC in this one, if only because of Jamie's breakdown/redemption which is just about the only thing I recall about it. China is where I feel that the Tribal Councils started to get a little bit better overall. Even the ones that didn't have anything particularly noteworthy about them were good. I like the second Tribal Council because it had some conflict between Dave and Sherea. The sixth Tribal Council was good too because Ashley was pleading to stay and I think Frosti was trying to convince people to vote her off. I really like Todd's TC in Episode 8. The Denise boot with the purple rock is one of my favorites (as is the whole episode) because I think it was just really shocking. Sherea's boot was another good Tribal Council, and like Fiji, I really like every TC in the finale (Frosti giving Erik the idol; Leslie's betrayal after not trying to talk Dave into taking her to the end; and the Final TC with the Dave/Sherea blowout). In Micronesia, there are a lot of Tribal Councils that I really like and most of them correspond to the blindsides of the season: Erik's, Natalie's, Earl's. One of my all-time favorites for some reason is the one where Ami was voted out because I really liked the conflict betweem Joel and Ami/Sherea. There was also the Terry vs. Eliza (probably not that great but still memorable), Ian's blindside, Kathy being voted out at the Tribal where Brooke/Eliza/Sherea were on the Reward. I like Sherea's boot just because four different people all got votes at it and it was a big shock. I'm not sure if there are any other "great" ones this season, although I could be missing something obvious. Maybe Eliza's boot, but I think it was pretty obvious that that was coming. For Gabon... there will definitely be a few memorable ones! :) Eventually, after my seasons are all done, I will probably do some rankings like people do in CTS (ie. Favorite Episodes, Favorite Moments, Best TCs, etc.) so this is a good start to get me thinking about that. Thanks for your predictions and for filling out the Popularity Poll! Sorry GF, classes started and I haven't had much time to devote to thoroughly reading the episodes, but luckily I shoved in some time to do so!
COMMENTS & QUESTIONS (A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I was expecting Corrine to have conflict with SOMEONE and SOON, so it seemed inserted into the episode. Kinda like just copied and pasted as it seemed to start from nothing, no gradual buildup into it. (The only time we saw Michelle in the episode was: <-- During the RC and the random "Go!"s and "Alright..."s in the challenge. And then out of nowhere, "Ken did this bad, Ken sucked." It's not that it wasn't a good plotline, I'm just saying it seemed unexpected, which isn't necessarily bad. However I am glad you did it. ;) (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Well since this episodes became the first "Fang" episode (Kota was just "Sugar did this wrong!") I would say my favorite part was Crystal and Michelle at the IC (I always liked that challenge, especially if Crystal is in it) or the Corinne/Michelle showdown. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) I say 8, just because it wasn't the strongest and there's always room for improvement, but it was enjoyable, realistic, and interesting. Kota will win both challenges, there will be more development in Kota on where Sugar stands (will she go with Crystal? or will she go with Marcus/Bob/Jacquie?) and if Kota loses Sugar might be voted out because she becomes a wildcard. This is just out of the blue, but my guesses on the development in Kota. For Fang, I stand by where if they lose another IC they will target the weak, and Ken will leave because of his self-proclaimed "mastermind." 3. Ken - 4 (I can't stand his "mastermind" persona, but I don't give him a 2 because he was attacked out of the blue in this episode) Marcus - 5 (he doesn't do anything. he just hangs with Jacquie and Bob...which must get boring) Matty - 6 (didn't see too much from him either, but he's not boring) Michelle - 5 (her attack on Ken was ill-hearted, but she didn't go down without a fight) Paloma - 7 (how can you not like her?) Randy - 6 (he toned down again, like 90% of the rest of them did) Sugar - 5 (she's emotional, and is now a floater. if she stays like this she will be gone soon) Susie - 6 (best ep2 boot ever) 4. Rating: INV, UTR, MOR, CP, OTT Tone: NN, N, Mixed (M) , Neutral (), P, PP Visibility: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 **I'll only explain the ones worth explaining, also remember this is my first time so bear with me if they don't turn out too good** Ace - MOR2 (We weren't supposed to forget about him but he didn't do much) Bob - MOR3 Charlie - MOR2 (I still see him as the winner, with Dan being a distraction right now) Corinne - OTTN5 (She definitely didn't come off as positive, but she wasn't as negative as Michelle) Crystal - CPP4 (Her head is in the game) Dan - CP4 (He was "cheerleading" the team after challenges, again I see him a distraction) G.C. - MORP3 (He was pretty positive throughout the whole episode, also "cheerleading" throughout the story) Gillian - OTTP5 (She's the one we're supposed to be liking right now) Jacquie - UTR2 Ken - CP4 (He's also playing a big game) Marcus - MOR2 Matty - UTR1 Michelle - OTTNN4 (She attacked a lot of people and fought with Corrine for the rest of the story, which is why she gets the NN) Paloma - INV1 (I don't remember a single thing she did in this episode) Randy - UTR2 Sugar - MOR2 Current Chart * Please factor in your own ratings for Episode 3 for the following questions 1) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think have the best chance of winning? 1. Charlie (He's got the intelligent player who isn't OTT edit) 2. G.C. (He's in an alliance and has consistent quotes/facetime, and we are reminded he's there. But he's not a huge player) 3. Marcus (Same as G.C.) 4. Ace (Ace is the villain that doesn't display too much villain-esque qualities, therefore making him semi-likeable. He also involves in some strategy, but not enough to stand out. I think once the Charlie/Paloma/Dan/Ace/Corinne alliance (whatever they were called) do a split or turn on each other, he'll really pick up as a dominant player) 2) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think are not eligible to be the winner, and are therefore "eliminated?" 1. Paloma (2 INV's and a UTR can't be very good) 2. Corinne (I think she's been given too much of a negative edit to be the winner) 3. Dan (Unless this was Real Fiji Earl, I don't think they'd build up a character so much and positively to be torn down later on). **Also keep in mind that I read the episode kind of fast so I might have missed little things here and there. thoughts, and I enjoyed reading them, as always.
I was expecting Corrine to have conflict with SOMEONE and SOON, so it seemed inserted into the episode. Kinda like just copied and pasted as it seemed to start from nothing, no gradual buildup into it. (The only time we saw Michelle in the episode was:Yes, Corinne was bound to have some conflict with someone pretty soon. Not sure what you mean by "copied and pasted," but I agree that this was a little bit unexplained, although I'm glad that you didn't see it as a negative thing. Well since this episodes became the first "Fang" episode (Kota was just "Sugar did this wrong!") I would say my favorite part was Crystal and Michelle at the IC (I always liked that challenge, especially if Crystal is in it) or the Corinne/Michelle showdown.Yeah, I think Fang ends up being the more interesting tribe no matter who goes to Tribal Council. I say 8, just because it wasn't the strongest and there's always room for improvement, but it was enjoyable, realistic, and interesting.Thanks. 8 is perfectly fine with me! :) Thanks for those (very interesting) predictions for Episode 4, and for filling out the Popularity Poll! Ace - 6 (he's a villain, but doesn't do much villain-ish stuff...yet)"Yet" is the important word. Even though she was clearly negative, the editing was mostly on her side and showing her to be at least somewhat justified. Yep, and it shows from the Popularity results. At one point she was close to 90, now she's in the low 80s, but she definitely went up significantly. Jacquie - 7 (she's too quiet but does all the right things. she's like a toned-down Charlie)Good point. She certainly doesn't seem to be in any danger right now. Susie - 6 (best ep2 boot ever)Yeah she did get quite a story for 2 episodes! Wow, awesome job on these, especially for your first time! These are just as good as anyone else's, so no need to worry about them "not turning out good" or anything. I'm impressed by how well you did, actually! :) And thanks for the explanations too. Dan - CP4 (He was "cheerleading" the team after challenges, again I see him a distraction)It is definitely starting to look that way after 4 "4"s in a row. He needs some cooldown very soon. Yeah, it's not a majority vote but I decided to give him a P on the overall chart. I agree with you here. Michelle - OTTNN4 (She attacked a lot of people and fought with Corrine for the rest of the story, which is why she gets the NN)Very good use of NN. I think it is fitting here. I don't think she did anything. Finally, thank you very much for your Contender / Eliminated lists! Great thoughts on all of them! :) 4.
