Why the hell are we just standing here?! <A wide view of the frantic Fang members is shown, before the camera zooms in on Randy> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: The second we got to our supplies, Michelle, Corinne, and Ace wanted to take a few things and go, <Ace can be heard saying "Just the [inaudible] will be plenty"> and I'm thinkin' "What are you talking about? It's not a race." <Michelle is now shown> Michelle: I say we start going… <Randy can then be seen tensing his expression> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> You know, we would have had to be complete idiots to not take every last thing on that mat. <Dan can now be seen grabbing one of the gourds of water> A lot of these people are younger than I am; <short pause> they make decisions impulsively <Both Ken and Corinne are shown next> and <pause> I have to just bite my tongue and pretend like I'm along for the ride… <Randy is shown carrying several canteens> Randy: <to Corinne> You need help carrying or are you good? <Corinne says "I'm good" to Randy, as the camera shows her adjusting the bag of corn in her arms> Corinne - CONFESSIONAL: Playing Survivor is not something you would normally find me doing. <The camera continues to focus on Corinne for a few seconds> You know, I really don't care about the experience; <short pause> I don't care about the people. <laughs> <Ace is shown carrying a bag of rice on his back> I'm just here to win the million dollars, and I'm gonna be nasty; I'm gonna be a bitch… <Paloma and Corinne are shown walking beside each other> Corinne: <to Paloma> What's your name again? <The camera now turns to Paloma> Paloma: <to Corinne> Paloma… <Corinne repeats "Paloma" aloud. Pick it up! <A close-up view of a struggling Susie is then shown next> Come on, Susie! Keep it up! <The camera then zooms back in on Matty again> Matty - CONFESSIONAL: That hike, <short pause> that hike was tough, man, especially for Susie. <Crystal is now shown walking with Susie> I think it was a little harder for her to keep up because, I mean, she's not carrying much extra weight, <Susie can be seen carrying a coiled rope> but, she's not physically fit. <The camera continues to show the Kota members making their way through the jungle> It's uneven terrain; you know, up a hill, down a hill. <A clip of Marcus is then shown> One minute you're in the middle of thick jungle and the next minute you're in open grassland, <The Kota tribe is then shown emerging from the jungle into a more open area> so <pause> I would definitely say that Susie slowed us down a lot on the hike… <A comical music begins to play, as the camera abruptly cuts back to Susie> Susie: Hey, we need to stop for a minute! I have to go to the bathroom! <laughs> <There is a prominent sound, as indistinct conversation can be heard and the camera shows Matty> Matty: <to G.C.> Susie has to go to the bathroom… <Susie can be seen walking into an area of taller grass, as the camera zooms out to show the other Kota members> Susie: If anybody sees, like, a hippo or an elephant, let me know… <Matty is shown again> Matty: <to Susie> Just [inaudible] real quick; <Crystal can be heard saying something inaudible to Matty> ten seconds… <Susie is now shown crouching down in the tall grass, before the camera switches angles to show several of her tribemates standing nearby> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: I felt really silly having to squat down and take a pee break in front of my whole tribe, <The camera continues to show an uncomfortable Susie for a few seconds> and this is twenty minutes in, mind you… <Both Marcus and Matty are now shown down> Matty: <talking loudly> Susie, you almost done?! <Susie is shown standing up cautiously. She then begins to walk back through the tall grass to rejoin her Kota tribemates> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> It was embarrassing a little bit, <laughs> but when nature calls, it calls, <laughs> <A view of the Kota members beginning to hike again is shown, as Bob can be heard saying "Let's roll"> so I mean, I just hope I'm not called "the one who went to the bathroom on Survivor" because I have to think about my son before I do anything and <short pause> my son'll never live that down… <laughs> <An overhead view of a fast-flowing river surrounded by several lush islands is shown, before the camera scrolls ahead to show a swift waterfall. A forest elephant can then be seen crashing through several trees, before the camera cuts ahead to show the Fang tribe halted in the dense jungle> Michelle: Do you guys know where we're going? Cause I have no idea… <Gillian is shown> Gillian: Is this seeming the right way to everyone? <Dan is then shown with a thoughtful look on his face> I'm just wondering if we took a wrong turn… <The Fang members are shown huddling around their map, as Dan reassuringly says "I'm sure we're not lost"> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: When Michelle opened up the map, the last thing I wanted to hear from her was "I have no idea where we're going," <Michelle can be seen pointing something out on the map, as Ace nods his head> but <long pause> Michelle has the map and it quickly became apparent to me that she doesn't have a clue… <Michelle is shown again> Michelle: <to Ace> So we have to go this way? <The camera zooms in on Ace> Ace: <to Michelle> Well, I can't promise, but that's where I would go… <A close-up view of a pensive Randy is shown, before the camera scrolls across several other Fang members> Michelle: Okay; that's what I thought. <Corinne is then shown> Alright; I can read… <laughs> Corinne: We have to hurry because I want to get to camp before it gets dark… <Ace is shown> Ace: I think we should just start picking up the pace a little. <The camera then scrolls over to several other Fang members, before focusing in on a contemplative Dan again> Dan - CONFESSIONAL: I sortof felt like from minute one that Ace was trying to set himself up as the leader. <Another clip of Ace is shown next> You know, he'd be in the front of the tribe kinda controlling how fast we walked… <Ace is now shown looking back at his tribemates> Ace: Just a little faster is all I ask… <A close-up view of Dan is then shown again> Dan: <to Ace> I like this pace right now; <short pause> I, I think this is the perfect pace right here. <A view of Charlie is shown, as he says "Me too"> We're all [inaudible] kindof in unison… Dan - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I personally have a lot of good leadership qualities as well, but I'm not sure I would want to be the quote unquote "leader" because those are the guys that get the targets on their backs, <The camera now shows a side view of Michelle, Gillian, and Corinne walking together> but <long pause> I'll definitely help the tribe, you know, in whatever role. <A rapid view of Dan is shown again, before the screen abruptly fades out> |

Um, our camp is actually situated right next to a lake, <The camera shows all nine castaways standing on the wooden dock> so as far as day-to-day living, access to water and fish, um, <short pause> it's great. <A prominent sound is heard, as the camera abruptly cuts ahead to show the entire tribe gathered in a group> Dan: Alright; so while we're all here, let's make a pact right now: <The camera zooms in on Randy> we work our asses off together, we stay unified, <A quick view of Michelle is shown next> and whatever's said at Tribal Council stays at Tribal Council… <Ace is then shown> Ace: Tribal Council?! I really do. <Dan is then shown smiling> Um, we've definitely got a great tribe, so <long pause> I think one of us is gonna take it… <The screen fades out>

It's right there! <The camera cuts ahead to show the nine joyful Kota members walking over to their flag and setting their supplies down> Crystal - CONFESSIONAL: We were so excited just to see our flag. <Bob is shown, as he says "Good job"> We had been walking for so long in the heat, with supplies, <laughs> that by the time we got to camp, we were so exhausted, <Matty can be seen taking a drink of water from his canteen> but <long pause> we definitely can't just sit back and take a break and catch our breath. <Another view of the Kota tribe is shown, as Sugar says "This is crazy!"> No; there's plenty of work to be done if we're gonna beat Fang … <Jacquie is then shown again> Jacquie: What do you say we do first? <The camera now scrolls over to a smiling Sugar> Sugar: I think we need a tribe motto! <laughs> You know, we need to bond! <laughs> <The camera switches angles to show Susie raising her eyebrows> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: When we walked into camp for the very first time, I think Sugar definitely stood out; <Sugar is now shown laughing and cheering> I mean, she's so positive and energetic, but <long pause> I think we really need to remain focused on goals, <Marcus is now shown carrying an armful of firewood> and "Let's think of what our team motto is," you know, "Let's build up some team spirit," that's nice because we definitely need that, but <long pause> that can come around a campfire. <A clip of both Sugar and Jacquie is shown next> Sugar: <cheering> Ko-ta! Ko-ta! <laughs> <The camera now shows Jacquie smiling> Jacquie: <to Sugar> Oh my god; you're awesome! <laughs> <Susie says "Oh, I'm excited!"> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> You know, that's not shelter; <short pause> that's not water, and I think that needs to be our priority in a survival situation… <'The Gathering' begins to play, as the camera shows Crystal carrying a bundle of leaves for the roof> Crystal: We need to fix these huts up, you guys… <G.C. now breaks a stick over his knee> G.C.: <talking loudly> Let's pimp it up! <Rapid clips of several Kota members working around camp is shown, before the camera focuses in on Crystal, who is carrying more leaves> Crystal - CONFESSIONAL: I won an Olympic gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in the women's 4 x 4 100 m relay. <The camera continues to show Crystal for a few seconds> I have no experience outdoors whatsoever, and this is like straight-up elements, <laughs> so <long pause> I signed up for an adventure and that's exactly what I'm gonna get… <laughs> <A clip of Crystal dragging a heavy log in front of the hut is shown, before the camera turns to Kelly> Kelly - CONFESSIONAL: Crystal, she's a tough girl, as far as like physically strong. <Crystal is shown chopping into a branch> Like, compared to me, she's huge, so she definitely strikes me as someone who could kick some serious butt in this game. <Kelly is shown again> She's probably gonna be my biggest competition, so I'm definitely gonna have to watch her… <A wide view of several Kota members is shown, as Crystal hands a bundle of leaves to Bob> Crystal - CONFESSIONAL: I'm 6'3", okay?! <laughs> I look threatening; I look intimidating. I know I stick out, and <long pause> it does put me out there very quickly. <Crystal and Susie can be seen high-fiving each other> In real life, it is part of my personality to be a leader, so I have to kindof tone that down. <A clip of Bob layering leaves onto the roof of the hut is shown> Bob: What do you think, Crystal? <Crystal can be seen looking up at Bob> Crystal: <to Bob> You're doing great, so <long pause> I'm not even gonna tell you. <Bob now laughs at something> Do it your way… <laughs> <Another view of Crystal is shown next> Crystal - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I'm not gonna be trying to take control. <Sugar and Jacquie are shown gathering sticks and twigs> When we get to having to vote people off, then I'll be the ringleader, <laughs> but as of right now, I just want to get our camp done. <laughs> <Crystal claps her hands several times, as the camera shows her tribemates looking around> Crystal: We have to work on the fire. <Marcus is shown plowing a stick against a flattened log> Susie: <to Marcus> Here, I'll blow on it… <Susie can be seen crawling in front of the fire pit, as she gently blows on the kindling. Kelly is then shown holding a few twigs> Kelly: I don't understand how that's gonna start fire, dude. <An unimpressed Crystal is shown with one hand on her hip> Don't we need like a flint thing with the machete? <Kelly is shown> Kelly - CONFESSIONAL: Coming into the game, I thought it was gonna be easy, but it's definitely not. <laughs> <Kelly can now be seen holding a piece of wood, as Bob spins a stick into a small notch> It's a lot more of a challenge than I expected. Like, I definitely thought we were gonna have fire no problem, but <pause> nope. We don't even have a flint yet… <The camera switches angles to show Marcus, Susie, and Bob around the fire pit again> Susie: Oh, man; this is gonna take all day… <An exhausted Marcus is then shown taking a deep breath and wiping his forehead, as the camera zooms in on him> Marcus: Holy crap. <Susie says "Good try," before the camera shows Kelly sitting nearby> Kelly - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> Um, my worst fear at the moment is not getting the fire started; <G.C. can be seen frantically scraping a stick against a log> not being able to eat or stay warm at night, so <long pause> I definitely think it's gonna be a challenge just to survive. I don't know what I was getting myself into… <Several Kota members are then shown> Crystal: Come on, Jesus, help us! We gotta get some fire… <Several prominent drumbeats are heard, as the camera shows a close-up view of a worried Crystal. The screen then fades out>
Fang Tribe - Day 1
<'Rejoicing' plays, as the aerial camera scrolls above the dense jungle and then shows a bird soaring above it, before fading into an overhead clip of a leopard sprinting through the grassland. A faraway view of the Fang tribe's flag is then shown, before the camera abruptly cuts ahead to show several castaways gathered in their main camp area> Ace: So we'll have the fire pit there <Ace can be seen pointing to a spot on the ground> and lay benches all the way around the perimeter. <Dan is then shown nodding his head> Charlie - CONFESSIONAL: Teamwork is an absolute necessity in Survivor, I believe. <The camera shows Michelle uncoiling a piece of twine> We really are working hard and surprisingly, we're getting along really well… <laughs> <The camera now turns back to Ace> Ace: Is it gonna be big enough if we go just a few feet around? <The camera shows Corinne> Corinne: <to Ace> I think [inaudible] feet should be fine… <Ace is then shown again> Ace: Well, are we gonna want a little more space? <Ace can be heard saying "I mean, you tell me," before the camera switches angles to show another view of Charlie> Charlie - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> Even the people like Ace and Corinne, they're really starting to come around and letting us feel like more of a tribe. <Ace and Randy are now shown working on the fire pit> We're so diverse; <short pause> like, we have a nurse; <A close-up view of Gillian is shown> we have two lawyers; <Both Charlie and Dan are shown> we have a video game pro, <A rapid clip of Ken is shown next> and <short pause> this is definitely a group effort… <The camera now cuts ahead to show Randy, Ace, and Dan> Randy: <to Dan> So what's the plan? <Dan says something inaudible> Where do you want to build it? Up there? <The camera then zooms in on Ace, who turns towards Randy> Ace: <to Randy> The fire should be built relatively where we're gonna keep it… <Dan can be heard asking "Will you hand that to me?" before Randy hands him the machete> Randy: <to Ace> Well, right, but <pause> we also need to be able to get the sun. <There is a prominent sound, as the camera cuts ahead to show a view of several clouds shifting in front of the red-orange sun. Gillian can then be seen holding her glasses over dry kindling> Randy: <to Gillian> This is the most sun we've had, but I don't know if it's up high enough… Gillian: <to Randy> I wonder if there's a secret to this; <short pause> I wonder if there's a certain angle that gets the sunlight more efficiently… <A disinterested Randy says "Beats me"> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: I have glasses; <short pause> Gillian has glasses. <Gillian is shown holding up her glasses, as she exclaims "This is not working right!"> In a perfect world, we'd take advantage of this sun, but the problem is we're not getting anywhere near enough sunlight, <The camera shows a close-up view of a discouraged Randy> so we're having to rely on A) Ace's meditation, <A comical sound is heard, as the camera shows Ace stretching his arms out> or B) Dan's shoestring fire method, <Dan can be seen using his shoestrings to make a fire bow> which, to be honest, are not gonna produce anything… <The camera continues to focus on Dan for a few seconds, before scrolling back over to Randy> Randy: <to Dan> I'm not trying to be negative, but <long pause> you understand, that's never gonna work… <A view of Dan is shown with an undeterred smile on his face> Dan: <to Randy> No, that's fine… <laughs> <The camera shows another view of Randy> Randy: <to Dan> I mean, try, <Dan says "Right"> but don't get your hopes up. <A view of the sun shining down is shown, before the camera fades out to show Dan spinning the fire bow> Dan - CONFESSIONAL: The technique that we're using to make fire was my idea. <A close-up view of a determined Dan is shown> Um, it's definitely not panning out the way I wanted it to, <laughs> but <long pause> on the other hand, nobody has come up with a more practical idea, <The camera now cuts ahead to show Ace in a meditation stance> so I guess I'm the "out-of-the-box" thinker of the group… <laughs> <Another clip of Dan and Randy is shown> Dan: <to Randy> See? Now look. <Randy can be heard asking "What?"> Feel that; <short pause> I bet you it's hot… <The camera shows Randy feeling the flattened piece of wood> Randy: <to Dan> Well, it's hot, but it's not smoking hot… <The camera now zooms out to show a wide view of the Fang tribe's main camp area, before focusing in on a watchful Corinne> Corinne: <to Dan> Okay, we trust you; make it happen… <Corinne is shown again> Corinne - CONFESSIONAL: I wouldn't know how to light a fire, literally, if someone held a gun to my head, <The camera cuts back to Dan, who continues to slide the fire bow back-and-forth> so to have someone like Dan who's willing to step up and try and make it happen was amazing, and <pause> he gave it a valiant effort, I must say… <'Upon This Hill' begins to play, as the camera shows a worn-out Dan setting the makeshift fire bow down and standing up> Dan: <talking aloud> Ugh, where are the Fire Gods when you need them?! <laughs> <The camera now zooms out to show both Randy and Gillian> Gillian: <to Dan> You know what? You gave it your best shot… <The camera returns to Dan> Dan - CONFESSIONAL: I spent hours today trying to make fire. Hours. <A disappointed Dan can be seen frowning> You know, it's frustrating and I'm my own worst critic anyhow, so the thought of giving up before the job is done just drives me insane. <laughs> <Gillian is shown> Gillian: <to Dan> Hey, we'll get it tomorrow… <Another view of Dan is shown next> Dan: <to Gillian> I'm, like, beating myself up over this. <The camera continues to show Dan> Dan - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I don't like to admit defeat, but at least I tried. <The camera now scrolls down to show Dan's fire bow> You know, I don't think that makes me an ineffective "leader" or an ineffective member of this team; not at all, <A wide view of several Fang members is shown> but <long pause> so unfortunately Fang spent our, um, first night on Survivor with no fire, <pause> and it sucks… <laughs> <The screen abruptly fades out>
Fang Tribe - Day 2
<A fast-forwarded view of the clouds shifting in the dark night sky is shown, before the camera shows the full moon, and then fades out to show the sun rising on the morning of Day 2. The camera then cuts ahead to show several Fang members lying awake in their hut> Corinne: I'm so happy the sun's up. <Corinne sits up, as the camera zooms in on her> Like, I've never been so happy for daytime in my life… <Gillian can now be seen rubbing her eyes> Gillian: That wood really hurts the ol' butt, doesn't it?! <laughs> <Corinne is then shown> Corinne: It's cold and it's hard ground… <The camera now abruptly cuts ahead to show Randy standing in the shallow lake waters and rubbing water onto his face> Randy - CONFESSIONAL: It's the second day of the game. You know, I think we got through our first night with only a moderate amount of discomfort. <A groggy Michelle can be seen climbing out of the hut> Um, no fire; <short pause> we slept nine of us in a broken-down hut just laying on the floor, so <long pause> did it sleep like a Serta? No, but can we deal with being a little uncomfortable? I think so… <Corinne is shown drinking the last bit of water from her canteen, before the camera zooms out to show several castaways standing by the hut> Corinne: I can, like, feel the dehydration… <The camera then scrolls over to Gillian> Gillian: Well, I'd like to get some water even to wash with, nevermind for drinking purposes… Ace: We don't even know where we have to get our water yet. <Michelle is then shown> Michelle: <to Corinne> Do you know where it is? <Corinne is shown turning towards Michelle> Corinne: No, but <long pause> we'll at least see where it is and if it looks bad. <Dan says "Just be careful"> We won't bring any back unless it looks clean enough to filter it. <Ace is shown> Ace - CONFESSIONAL: Corinne and Michelle decided they were gonna go get water this morning and maybe try to filter it because we're all feeling a little dehydrated… <Michelle can be seen with several canteens strung across her shoulder> Michelle: Do you guys have the map? <Randy now hands the water map to Michelle> Randy: <jokingly> Don't get lost… <A comical sound is heard, as Michelle makes a face> Michelle: <annoyedly> I didn't get us lost! <The camera switches angles to show Ace again> Ace - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> Now, um, this is the same Michelle that couldn't read a map yesterday. <Corinne and Michelle are shown walking through the jungle> You know, they might never come back… <laughs> <The camera shows Corinne looking down at the map> Michelle: <to Corinne> I think it's farther back on this path… <Corinne and Michelle continue to walk ahead, before the camera scrolls ahead to show the water well in a jungle clearing> Corinne: <excitedly> Oh my gosh! <Corinne can now be seen clapping excitedly> Corinne - CONFESSIONAL: Oh, I was ecstatic to find our water. Are you kidding?! It's an actual well and not in a little pond somewhere with, like, a few inches of murky swamp water… <Corinne lifts the lid off of the well, as she says "Ew" and the camera zooms in on the water> Michelle: That stuff is nasty… <The camera shows another clip of both Michelle and Corinne> Corinne - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> You know, it still looks kindof like a scum hole water pit with a bunch of diseases in it, <Corinne dips a canteen into the water, as she says "I so don't wanna drink this"> and <pause> we're definitely gonna have to boil it; at least filter it, but <long pause> at least it's not in some elephant's toilet that animals are gonna [censored] in. You know, thanks for that… <There is a prominent drumbeat, as the screen fades out>
Kota Tribe - Day 2
<'Slow and Easy' plays, as the overhead camera rapidly zooms above several jagged limestone cliffs, and then fades out to show two hippos half-submerged in a swampy lake. An aerial view of the Kota tribe's main camp area is then shown, before the camera cuts ahead to show their flag. An exhausted Susie can now be seen sitting down beside Sugar on a log> Susie: <talking aloud> Oh, mercy… <Marcus is then shown standing in front of the fire pit> Marcus: If you guys could have one thing right now, what would it be? <Matty is now shown> Matty: <to Marcus> I would have done anything for a blanket, dude… <The camera then switches angles to show a side view of both Crystal and G.C.> Crystal: Y'all, we need to go on a serious food hunt today… <Susie is heard saying "I know"> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: In the last 24 hours, all we've had to eat or drink is some water from the canteens. <Jacquie can be seen taking a drink of water> You know, we can't cook rice because we haven't started fire, so <pause> there's gotta be, you know, fruit or nuts around here somewhere, so <long pause> I went out with Crystal… <Crystal and Susie can now be seen walking on the fringe of a forested area> Susie: <to Crystal> Just keep your eyes open cause a lot of times there could be fruit and you can't see 'em… <Crystal can be seen looking up at the treetops, as she says "I know this"> Crystal: <to Susie> We have to find something. <An eerie shift in the music now occurs, as there is an extended silence and the camera zooms back in on a contemplative Susie> Susie: <to Crystal> You know, I think there's no other bonds that are this tight out here except for you and me. <The camera then switches angles to show Crystal nodding her head> Crystal: <to Susie> Well, I already know I trust you more than anyone else… <Susie smiles> Susie: <to Crystal> I'm comfortable being with you, <Crystal says "Yeah"> and maybe one other person because I think we're gonna need numbers if we have to go to Tribal Council… Susie - CONFESSIONAL: I could just feel that I had an immediate bond with Crystal as far as us both being moms, <A close-up view of Crystal is now shown next> and <long pause> I think she feels the same about me, so that's kindof the one person I made an alliance with right away because I need an alliance, I feel like… <The camera turns to show Crystal again> Crystal: <to Susie> We're cool, right? <Susie is now shown smiling and nodding her head> Susie: <to Crystal> Yeah. The only way our alliance would break is if you wanted to get rid of me, <Crystal is shown, as she says "No" and Susie pauses> because I'm with you 100%. So if anything happens, just tell me… <Crystal then says "It's done"> Susie - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> Obviously I'd rather not have to go to Tribal Council, but if we do, at least I have her to kindof watch my back… <Crystal and Susie can now be seen walking back towards camp together, as they continue to speak and laugh> Susie: <to Crystal> That makes me feel so much better. <laughs> <There is a prominent drumbeat, as the camera continues to focus on Susie, before the screen fades out> Fang Tribe - Day 3
<'Little Divas' plays, as the camera shows a silhouetted view of a lone tree and the sun can be seen rising behind it. A family of elephants are then shown splashing through a shallow lake, before the camera cuts ahead to show Ace, Charlie, and Corinne walking towards Fang's treemail basket. The camera then zooms in on a wooden box inside of the red basket> Corinne: <excitedly> Oh, check it out! What is this?! <Charlie can now be seen pulling out the wooden box, as Ace says "Dun, dun, dun." The camera abruptly cuts back to Fang's main camp area to show the other castaways gathered around their shelter> Ace: <talking loudly> Hey, guys; we have mail! <Gillian can be seen clapping excitedly> Dan: Read! <The camera now focuses in on Corinne for a few seconds, as she opens up the wooden box and reads the treemail message aloud to her tribemates> Corinne: You're only three days in, and you're hungry and you're tired; You're thirsty without water, and you're cold without a fire. Well, it's Kota vs. Fang; only one tribe gets the flame. If you're not the first to finish, you may be the first to leave the game.
<The camera shows rapid clips of several Fang members, and then focuses in on Ace> Ace: I have an idea that I'd like to throw out for the challenge: <An interested Dan can now be seen looking up> when we go in there, let's tell them that we have fire <The camera now shows Corinne again> because I think every mental advantage that we can have over them for this Immunity Challenge is gonna help us win, <The camera then zooms out to show all nine Fang members> and I think fire is the biggest one right now… <A view of Charlie is shown> Charlie - CONFESSIONAL: If I were Ace right now, I definitely wouldn't want anyone to know on Day Three that I'm willing to lie to win the game, or that I'm gonna be so cutthroat <The camera focuses back in on Ace> because that's gonna make people in the tribe not trust him… Corinne: If we can "one-up" them… <Another close-up view of Ace is then shown next> Ace: Well, especially if they don't have fire. <Corinne says "Yeah, exactly"> If they do, I mean, we don't want to give them the satisfaction of knowing we don't have it yet… <Ace can be seen shrugging carelessly, before the camera switches angles to show a thoughtful-looking Charlie> Charlie - CONFESSIONAL: <continued> I would definitely say Ace either made a really good move or a really bold stupid move <laughs> just because we don't know each other that well yet… <The camera now shows the nine Fang members cheering "One, two, three, Fang!"> Ace - CONFESSIONAL: Survivor is one huge mind game. It's like a chess game of human interaction, and <pause> you have to be "Game on" from the start. <Gillian and Michelle can both be seen examining the treemail box> I mean, not using lies and deceit and manipulation to win this game is like not collecting your $200 when you pass "Go" on Monopoly. It's just that little something extra that gets you to the top, <A clip of the nine Fang members walking out of camp is now shown> and <long pause> I always come out on top, because I know my strengths… <A prominent drumbeat is heard, as the screen abruptly fades out> |

Start solving it! <Gillian, Ken, and Paloma can be seen grabbing the bags of puzzle pieces from their tribemates and then dumping them out> Jeff Probst: <narration> Fang still with the lead on Kota heading in to the final leg of this challenge! <The camera shows the Kota members continuing to dig under their gate, before focusing back in on the Fang members, as they set several pieces of the puzzle into place> Jeff Probst: <narration> Fang working together well on their puzzle! <Randy is then shown> Randy: <shouting> Yeah! Let's go, Fang! <Paloma sets the final piece of the first puzzle into place, as her other tribemates can be heard cheering> Jeff Probst: <narration> Fang has the first third of their puzzle solved! <Gillian can be heard saying "Another bag!" as Ken dumps out the second bag of puzzle pieces> Got two more bags! <The Kota members can be seen digging under their gate in the distance, before the camera shows the three Fang members making progress on their second puzzle> Jeff Probst: <narration> Gillian, Ken, and Paloma makin' quick work of it! <Ace is now shown> Ace: Come on! <The camera now shows Paloma dumping out the third bag of puzzle pieces, as Ken quickly grabs one and sets it into place> Jeff Probst: <narration> Fang workin' on the last part of their puzzle now! <The camera switches angles to show Susie, Sugar, and Bob with uneasy looks on their faces> Susie: This isn't good, you guys… <The camera then turns back to the six Kota members> Jeff Probst: <narration> Kota tryin' to catch up! <A close-up view of an exhausted Kelly is shown> It's not gonna matter… <The camera abruptly goes back to the Fang tribe> Dan: Alright, guys! Almost done! <Gillian can now be seen putting the last piece of the puzzle into place, as she raises her arms and begins to shout excitedly. Paloma and Ken are now shown. Jeff then looks down at the puzzle, before he raises his arms> Jeff Probst: <shouting> Fang wins Immunity and fire! <A victory theme begins to play, as the camera shows the overjoyed Fang members cheering and hugging each other> Gillian: <excitedly> Everybody get up here! <A close-up view of Ace, Charlie, and Corinne is shown, before the camera switches angles to show the defeated Kota tribe, still digging, and focuses in on both Crystal and Matty. A disappointed Bob is then shown, before the camera cuts ahead to show Jeff walking over to Fang with the Immunity Idol in his hands> Jeff Probst: Fang, congratulations. <A view of the victorious Fang tribe is shown, as the castaways clap> Immunity; <short pause> nobody goin' home tonight. <Jeff can now be seen handing the Immunity Idol to Ace, as an eerie shift in the music occurs> Ace: Thank you very much indeed. <The camera continues to focus on Jeff for a few seconds> Jeff Probst: Also, the other half: <Jeff now pauses, as he tosses flint towards the Fang tribe and Dan catches it> fire in the form of flint. <Michelle is shown nodding her head, as a few excited cheers are heard. The camera then goes back to Jeff again> Jeff Probst: Kota, you got a date with me at Tribal Council tonight <A close-up view of an uneasy Matty is shown> where one of the nine of you will earn the unfortunate distinction of being the first person voted out of Survivor: Gabon. <Susie, Jacquie, and Marcus are now shown with disappointed looks on their faces> You have the afternoon to figure it out. <The camera shows G.C. with a thoughtful expression on his face, and then returns to Jeff> Jeff Probst: Head on out! I'll see you at Tribal… <A clip of the dejected Kota tribe walking out of the challenge area is shown for a few seconds, before the camera zooms in on Crystal. The camera then goes back to the still-celebratory Fang tribe, as they hold the Immunity Idol up victoriously. The screen then fades out> |

EPISODE 1 NOTES | ||

EPISODE 1 NOTES:
In keeping with the tradition of the last several seasons, I'm going to go through the episode and elaborate on any parts of it that are particularly important or need further clarification.
1) Instead of only ending with a Thank You, I want to start with one too, because I've been amazed this season by the number of people who are commenting and posting in the thread already, and I hope it is a sign of things to come. It's very nice to have so many people continuing to read into season #8, so thank you so much for that! As for the schedule of this season, I have managed to get a fair amount of work done on every episode, but I don't want to post any concrete dates yet because I'll have to slow down again when school starts, but I don't see it being more than a week between episodes. Hopefully I can keep up with 5-7 days.
2) The way I did the opening this season was modeled after the real China premiere because I wanted to "introduce" everyone in a quick and efficient way, and listing their occupations was a good way to do this. I really wanted to just get right into the action, which is part of the reason I went with pre-picked tribes (plus I think they're generally more evenly divided and the pick'ems are WAY overdone now). So having them get right into their tribes was simple and took up less of the episode, I think.
3) I've talked a lot about how Randy and Crystal are big characters and you saw a lot of them just in those first few pages. I found them both of them act as good characters to keep the story moving forward, similar to narrations, just because they can really have an interesting comment about just about anything. So I used them a lot on the hike, but I also wanted to introduce some other characters here. Just from the Preview, a lot of you picked up on something between Ace and Dan - maybe a little rivalry - and then characters like Michelle, Corinne, and Susie also got introduced. I'll just say that I really liked the part with Susie and I think it suits her character in this story. Of course, her slowness on the hike also came up at the end with Matty trying to target her. More on that later…
4) The first Fang scene is pretty Dan-centric, and it's all about trying to ensure that the Fang tribe stays unified. Dan leads the "circle of hands," so is that an indication of him trying to be the leader or not? This premiere episode introduces a lot about Dan's character: we get some "ideas" to keep our eyes on (leadership, unity, confidence, etc.) And just as an aside, I've had a lot of people ask me about planning out themes and characters and stuff like that, so for them, these are the kinds of things that I'm looking at and charting in the episodes when trying to plan the story out. It will be interesting to see how these play out with Dan.
Dan also makes a prediction that he thinks someone from Fang will win. Well, there's a 50% chance of that happening, so either it's foreshadowing or it's irony, so this really doesn't give anything away (yet?). The key is going to be figuring out which it is.
And of course you also see cocky Ace in this seen with his comment about Tribal Council.
5) I love the first Kota scene, even though I had to cut some stuff out of it (that's why it goes right from one confessional to the next sometimes). This is a scene that's mostly about Crystal vs. Kelly. I did throw a bit of Sugar/Susie into it too, just to introduce Sugar as a positive character and to use Susie's confessional to move things along, but the focus is on building up the two characters who end up in a power struggle.
Let me talk about Crystal first: I think that she is going to potentially come off OTT here, but we do get a lot of character insight. First of all, we learn about her being an Olympic medalist which is obviously going to be included no matter what. We learn that she has no experience outdoors, and she's aware that her size and her strength are going to make her someone who's automatically very intimidating. She knows she can't come off as a leader at camp (notice how she says to Bob that he's doing great and she doesn't want to tell him anything), but she says she wants to be in charge of who gets voted off. Side note: she accomplishes this, as you saw. But then we DO see Crystal being a bit of a leader at camp by pushing her tribe to work on fire, so you have to ask yourself if she's really going to be able to take a step back or not.
The person who really catches on to Crystal is Kelly, who says that she's very physically strong and that Crystal will be her biggest competition in the game. This is definitely supposed to lead up to the "showdown" between them. We also hear about how Kelly thought the game would be easy and how they don't even have "a flint" as opposed to just flint. I really like how this scene connects to the end of the episode.
6) So now we go back to Fang, where we see Ace in the position of leader, directing where the fire pit goes. We hear from a new character, Charlie, who talks about the tribe working well together, even Ace and Corinne, who are definitely already established as negative forces. Since Fang started in a bit of disarray, I needed to make them seem like the positive, happy tribe at this point, because they won the first challenge.
The Dan/Ace "rivalry" continues, as Randy asks Dan a question about the fire and Ace answers it instead. The rest of the scene follows the fire-building, where we see mainly Randy, Gillian, Ace, and Dan.
Randy/Gillian use their glasses - Gillian comes off as a bit annoying, probably -, Ace uses meditation (although it's only a minor mention), and Dan gets the major focus. He made a bow out of his shoestrings and because he's a bit insecure and trying to prove something to himself, he becomes kindof distraught about failing to make fire. We've seen some contrast between Dan/Ace, now we get it with Dan and Randy, with Dan being positive and optimistic and Randy being negative and pessimistic by telling him it will never work.
I know I've used lack of fire-making before with Earl and then Mikey/Dave to represent things like "Earl doesn't win because he can't make fire, etc." Dan definitely got similar focus, but I'm not *that* repetitive, so for Dan, it's not going to be about him winning or not winning the game, but it's going to represent a struggle or a battle that he has with wanting to prove things to himself and show that he's capable. He's trying to tell himself that it's okay to not get fire, but at the same time he knows he's his own worst critic. I could talk a lot about Dan, but I've already mentioned him quite a bit so I'll leave it at that. He'll be an interesting character to try and figure out though.
7) Onto the next Fang scene: this was cut down a little bit. It had more at the start of Randy talking about his tribemates complaining (specifically Corinne and Michelle - they're probably the main focus in this scene). The confessional about the water from Corinne came from my next season - I had written it up for a similar character when my next fanfic was going to be set in the Kalahari (in Africa), so I transferred it over to Corinne. I think it fit her character well enough. I just wanted to get that into a scene because I liked it. But it's still an important scene for C and M, as you'll see later.
8) The next Kota scene is pretty much focused around Crystal and Susie and you found out why this scene was necessary, later in the episode. With Crystal basically going out on a limb to save Susie, I needed to establish this relationship. As I said last season with Micronesia, any alliances that are shown in Episode 1 are pretty much guaranteed to be important, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll go far. This time, the alliance was important for the outcome of the episode. Susie saying that she'd rather not go to Tribal Council, but she has Crystal to watch her back was definitely foreshadowing of what would happen later on when Crystal rose to Susie's defense.
9) The next Fang scene is Ace telling his tribe that they should lie about starting fire. In theory, it's potentially a good idea because it will give Fang a mental advantage if Kota doesn't have fire because Kota will think Fang has one over on them. If Kota really *did* have fire, Fang doesn't want Kota to go in thinking Kota is better, so there's really no bad outcome for Fang in lying about it. HOWEVER, it did expose to everyone else that Ace is willing to lie and do deceitful things and it's Charlie who really picks up on this. This will be somewhat important in Episode 2.
10) Moving on to the Immunity Challenge: I always keep the first one pretty much the same as the real show. There were minor adjustments, like the bamboo crawl instead of the hitching posts, but essentially the same idea. Another thing that ended up being the same was that some of the Fang members were pointed out for taking breaks and not digging, and even before that, I knew that Kelly was going to be accused of a poor performance at this challenge and one of the things she did was not dig at the final gate (this was an added element to my Immunity Challenge though). However, instead of Kelly just getting tired and not digging, there was something interesting in the gray text in that Crystal actually pushed Kelly's hands out of the way and took over her spot. So there is room for some debate about that - yes, Kelly was going very slow, as Jeff said in his narration, but was Crystal being overly aggressive so she could later say that Kelly didn't do anything? Maybe…
11) With all the scenes I had, I wanted to make sure that there was a pretty even chance for either tribe to lose Immunity. I definitely didn't want it to be obvious, and I think both tribes got some decent development so I hope it was a challenge that you guys felt could have gone either way. Personally, for me, I thought it would seem more obvious for Kota to lose but a lot of people were predicting Fang, so that was a pleasant surprise for me.
12) [Oops, this note was from Micronesia]
13) Now we have the pre-TC strategy scene, which I really like. I think the strategy is more indepth than I've had in other premiere episodes, so hopefully it felt more like it was in the middle of the season or something. I had talked about there being a power struggle, and it was between Crystal/Susie and Kelly/Matty, with everybody else kindof in the middle. I originally wanted to have the Kelly/Matty thing come up earlier in the episode, but it ended up getting pushed back, so I started off the scene with that, and the two of them trying to act intelligent and strategic and they ended up deciding on voting out Susie because she was the weakest person.
So, from there, they basically went around to all of the people in the tribe and said that they were voting for Susie. They didn't tell Crystal though, partly because Kelly was wary of her (we know this from an earlier confessional) and because they just didn't trust her. Maybe also because they could sense her closeness to Susie. They did go to G.C. though, and this was the key conversation to show more than any other. Matty tells G.C. that they're voting for Susie. G.C. obviously had some connection with Crystal that we didn't see, so he told Crystal that even though he "didn't know if he was supposed to." Note that there is a clip of Matty telling Marcus not to say anything to Crystal, which confirms that G.C. was probably given that same instruction. Anyway, because of Crystal's alliance with Susie, she says "There's no way that's happening" and she tries to turn the tables on Kelly/Matty. She already has Susie and G.C. ends up with them, which gives them 3 votes. Side note: Crystal calling Kelly/Matty Barbie and Ken didn't really mean anything romantic - it was just their similar appearance and the way they were acting together with being an obvious close alliance/friendship.
That means Marcus/Jacquie/Sugar/Bob are the votes up for grabs. We see Crystal talking to Marcus and Jacquie (although Jacquie doesn't really say much), and one thing you'll notice about Marcus is that he's big on having a unified decision and he wants to go with the majority. Crystal says that she'll talk to Bob first, Bob agrees on voting out Kelly, and then Bob (wanting to be an honest player) pulls a G.C. and tells Kelly that they're targeting her. BUT, Crystal was the main person leading the campaign, not Susie, so Kelly gets upset with Crystal (who she already perceives as her biggest competition), and she suggests voting out Crystal instead. To be clear, Kelly and Matty DEFINITELY decide that they are voting for Crystal. They then try to convince Jacquie/Sugar/Bob/Marcus of this as well, and that's where the episode leaves off because I wanted it to seem up in the air, where it could have been any of Crystal, Susie, or Kelly to go.
So this scene mostly revolves around Crystal, Kelly, and Matty, and then Bob and G.C. were somewhat involved in what was going on even though they both only got confessionals at the end.
14) I also really like the first Tribal Council. I think it sums up what went on in the episode really well and it touches on some important points. It's mostly the same characters that are focused on here as in the previous scene, but we also get a fairly good comment from Marcus about wanting to vote with the majority and Bob's quote about the importance of fire. I also love Kelly's line that the only reason people would vote her off is because she's a big threat to win the million dollars. Even Jeff got a little laugh at that but tried to not make it obvious. The highlight, for me though, was the Kelly and Crystal argument that erupted once the challenge was brought up. I really liked the line about steroids (no offense meant to Crystal), and I thought it was funny coming from Kelly, who I generally found to be a funny character to work with.
15) A quick note about G.C.'s answer: for some reason, when I was hearing him say this answer in my head, it flowed better and sounded better with him saying "five" instead of "six," but it was really six diggers not five that was correct, so I just put this in red brackets to show that he meant to say six. It doesn't have any hidden meanings or anything like that.
16) QUESTION: Why did Matty change his vote to Susie at the end?
This will be briefly addressed in Episode 2, but due to the way Tribal Council went, Matty was pretty confident Kelly was going to be voted out. Maybe they were even told before Tribal Council what was going to happen - I'll leave that up for interpretation, but somehow, he thought Kelly was going to go. If he had voted for Crystal, you can bet that Crystal would have been pretty pissed and would have come after him. But Jeff asked Susie if she would understand being voted out and she said she would understand if the tribe really thought she was holding them back. This is what Matty thought, so he switched his vote to Susie, thinking she'd be less likely to hold it against him or seek revenge than Crystal would be.
19) EPISODE 2:
As you can see, there is an Episode 2 preview. I'm going to try my best to keep up with previews this season, since I'm working ahead of schedule. There were quite a few things I could have chosen to put in the preview, but I went with the alliances on Fang and Susie annoying her tribe. With Fang, the Dan/Ace story is going to come into play a bit, but Charlie also gets pulled into it now. Recall his comments about not trusting Ace before the Immunity Challenge. As for Susie, she's afraid of wild animals (during her "bathroom break" she said to let her know if anyone saw a hippo or elephant) and she keeps her tribe up at night. Matty gets a confessional about it, and it's interesting because in my mind, as I write this, Matty's story is a bit tied to Susie. So I'm interested to see if you see that continuing. And of course the new Exile twist will make its appearance in Episode 2, which will be fun to see how that plays out.
Usually my Episode 2s aren't as great, but I think you guys are going to really enjoy this one. I obviously haven't seen any thoughts on the premiere yet, but I'm expecting this to be a well-liked episode too, so I hope I'm not wrong.
20) Finally, I really hope that you all enjoyed the premiere, and I would once again like to offer my sincere thanks to you for reading it. I'm amazed to still have so many people reading into the eighth season (wow!). I would greatly appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes to leave some comments on the episode and let me know what you thought. Thanks in advance for all the replies!
Best regards,

COMMENTS & QUESTIONS
(A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. First off... Second of all, the irony of Kelly's quote is hilarious on so many levels. And Kelly saying that Crystal doesn't like her because of her looks... Thirdly, I think you did a DEAD on job for Crystal. There is no doubt in my mind that she would have done that in the same situation. I love the Barbie/Ken quote. Fourth, I REALLY like the Susie/Crystal alliance. I think they would align in every scenario together. I am happy Susie wasn't the first boot. I like to see older women go farther than some younger ones... I think had Kelly stayed, I probably wouldn't of liked this episode. Fifth, Fang is interesting. At first I was SO SURE, Fang would go to tribal and one of Ace/Michelle/Dan would be voted out. I also thought they would be the more crazy dynamic tribe, which I think it's about a tie because both tribes are pretty different. Hopefully, there is more drama. I could go on forever about the little details but it was a GREAT episode. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Kelly calling Tribal Council... Immunity Council. I don't know if this was a typo but it was funny. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) This is the first episode, I feel deserves a 10. The standards have been pushed up a bit. (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you'd like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? None at this time. 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? MASSIVE CRYSTAL 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 2? Ace or Michelle. (B) Which castaway will be sent to Exile? Susie. (C) Do you have any other predictions for Episode 2? Fang gets a lot of drama. 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Please try to base your ratings only on the likability of the characters in my story, not how they appeared on the real show. Ace - 3 (His arrogance really shined through) Bob - 7 (Bob... I just liked him after this episode) Charlie - 6 (I see him emerging as a strategic player) Corinne - 6 (Not really as bitchy as she was on the show. There is still time...) Crystal - 10 (MASSIVE CRYSTAL TAKES DOWN HER FIRST VICTIM!) Dan - 7 (When reading the episode, Dan is probably going to be an early boot in his tribe or will make it all the way to the end) G.C. - 9 (G-Sizzle is pimp!) Gillian - 6 (I am happy she is fitting in so far) Jacquie - 5 (Didn't see much of her, her and Marcus seem the bulk of Kota) Kelly - 1 (I appreciate her character, but I just don't like her) Ken - 5 (Not much from him) Marcus - 5 (I see him and Jacquie becoming an alliance?) Matty - 2 (It seems that he likes to whine a lot) Michelle - 8 (Oh, her and Corinne on the same tribe is going to be fun) Paloma - 5 (Didn't get much from her. Though, she will be emerging soon) Randy - 7 (Doesn't seem overly annoyed at his tribe. Maybe he will last) Sugar - 6 (All she was, was a cheerleader. I don't see her lasting MUCH longer) Susie - 10 (I loved her!) |

Hello Hijojo! Thanks a lot for your comments and the episode, and for being the first to comment for this season! I
appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and I reading them! :)
I thought it was really good. I thought it had a good mix between "getting camp set up" scenes and more "character and strategy" scenes, which is important in episode 1.Thank you. I definitely try to balance camp life and strategy, especially in the early episodes so I'm glad you found there to be a good mix of those. Don't worry about your predictions not turning out right - that only makes it more surprising for you! Hopefully the Kelly boot wasn't too obvious right away though. By the end of the questions at Tribal Council, probably, but hopefully not too much before that. Oh, and I'm not seeing the episode 2 preview, and I believe note 12 is from last season...The Episode 2 Preview and Kelly's Final Words are at the end of the word document, but I forgot to post them in the thread. Thanks for letting me know that I missed note 12. I will edit it out in a few minutes. Thanks for rating the episode an 8. That's a good place to start! :) Thank you for your predictions and for filling out the Popularity poll. Finally, thank you so much for those great Edgic ratings! Hope these are right; I'm obviously new with this... I'm pretty unsure of Matty's, and Randy's tone..You did a fantastic job, especially for somebody who is just new to Edgic. Many of these ratings are either exactly what I was going for, or extremely close. I'm very impressed! I agree that there's a bit of ambiguity with tone and I'm noticing that in some other people's posts as well, but I figured Matty would be neutral and I was leaning towards negative on Randy, but I could easily go neutral on him. Thank you again for your comments. This is a great post to start off what will hopefully be a great season. Hope you enjoy the rest of the episodes. Take care! :) |

COMMENTS & QUESTIONS
(A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I thought the premiere episode was great. You've developed quite a few subplots, and I feel that Dan's early prediction may be right with a Fang winner as that tribe seems more complex especially with the Kelly vs. Crystal storyline on Kota ending already. Although I liked Kelly's character (and the irony of her being underestimated, although obvious once Kota lost, was enjoyable), I'm glad she left because Susie and Crystal are my early favorites. I'm glad Crystal got a lot of airtime, and I think you did well capturing her character. I wish Jacquie and Paloma had gotten more airtime, as they seemed to be players in the preview, but I expect them to develop soon. In other words, great episode! (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Kelly's ironic statement at the beginning, as well as Randy/Ace's saracastic ocmments (Ace meditating to start fire/ Michelle getting lost again) (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) It was a great episode, and I can't wait to see the season develop. It definetely deserves a 9 and if the season continues this way, you'll defintely have some 10 episodes. (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you'd like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? None that I can think of right now (The episode comments are really helpful) 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? Although I originally guessed Jacquie, I feel like Charlie might now be our winner. He's under the radar, surrounded by distractions already, and was strategic. (I hope Crystal wins though) 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 2? Gillian (B) Which castaway will be sent to Exile? Michelle (Pure guess, but I just think it would be funny to see her try to follow a map again) (C) Do you have any other predictions for Episode 2? Ace will defintely cause conflict on Fang. He;'s too good a character to leave this soon though! 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Please try to base your ratings only on the likability of the characters in my story, not how they appeared on the real show. Ace - 6 Bob - 3 Charlie - 6 Corinne - 7 Crystal - 10 (Favorite already) Dan - 8 G.C. - 6 Gillian - 4 Jacquie - 5 (Not enough to go on) Kelly - 3 (As a character she was great, but I was glad to see her leave) Ken - 4 (See Jacquie (Would have been a five, but I'm sick of his whole video gamer thing)) Marcus - 5 Matty - 1 Michelle - 7 Paloma - 5 (See Jacquie) Randy - 9 Sugar - 5 Susie - 9 4. EDGIC POLL * For readers familiar with the concept of Edgic. For more information Edgic, please visit this thread: S17 EDGIC (A) Edgic for my fanfics has been very successful over the past few seasons (including choosing Tracy as Micronesia's winner from early on), so I would love to get some reader involvement in determining Edgic ratings again. Please submit your own ratings in this thread. Ratings will be compiled and I'll post the final ratings in a chart before the next episode. Rating: INV, UTR, MOR, CP, OTT Tone: NN, N, Mixed (M) , Neutral (), P, PP Visibility: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 I had some interesting choices for a few of these. It was just how I percieved them. Ace - CPN3 (We learned about his strategy and insight into the game, but he was defintely cocky and viewed as crazy/annoying/overplaying by his tribemates) Bob - MOR2 (I debated UTR, but Bob was very present during the pre tribal scene) Charlie - CP2 (This was my strangest pick. He might be UTR/UTRP, but we definetly got into the head of Charlie on how he percieved his tribe members. He likes Dan, and defintely is a narrator who provides insight. For that I think he was more complex then his visibility suggests) Corinne - MORN3 (Corinne was negative, but not OTT/CP/UTR. She provided insight on how she would play the game, and was also seen complaining. Still she wasn't constantly complaining, and was shown to be strategical/trying to keep her mouth shut....so CP+OTT=MOR) Crystal - CPP5 (If it was possible to get a 6 in visibility, Crystal would have it. She was the narrator. She was the main strategic force. She was a massive challenge presence. Although I felt that her comments might have been percieved negative during her scheming, her opening scene was defintely positive, and because Kelly was negative, Crystal, as her opponent is who we are rooting for. Crystal is loyal, and just trying to help her friend. The negativity if any is just Crystal, and so I think she was CPP) Dan - CPP4 (We learned a lot about Dan, and despite his failing at fire, he's upbeat and smart. A front runner in terms of a winner) G.C. - MOR3 (GC was there. He's Crystal's ally and provided some narration.) Gillian - UTR1 (Gillian actually had tone, but in small doses. Her fire scene was annoying, but she provided some support. Very in depth for a 1 visibility) Jacquie - UTR1 (Not INV, but close) Kelly - MORN4 (Although possibly OTT, she did provide character insight, just not insight the reader would respect. The readers are supposed to laugh at her stupidity. Clearly a smart first boot) Ken - UTR1 (He plays video games) Marcus - MOR2 (He was a swing voter with no insight) Matty - MORN4 (He complained about Susie on the hike. He complains about Susie after the challenge. He has terrible SPV and is linked to Kelly. A weak N, but an N) Michelle - OTTN2 (Although not overly negative, she was seen as stupid with the map. The others mocked her, and she had nothing to counteract it. 1 Dimensional, and stupid is always seen negatively) Paloma - UTR1 (Nearly INV) Randy - CPM4 (The Randy we love. He's positive, he's negative. He's scheming, hes narrating, hes complaining.) Sugar - UTRP1 (Although complained about, she's still positive) Susie - OTTM4 (Wow she was very visible, but I have no clue how Susie will play this game. She doesn't want to go first, shes scared of animals, and she went to the bathroom. 1 dimensional in a sense, but both postive and negative) Extra comments: As of now, I feel Fang is more complex. A few players might be invisible, but I remember everyone (Paloma reminded us of her name, Jacquie had a few words (she loves Sugar, etc)) A lot of players stand out as possible winners, but if I had to choose an Edgic winner now, Dan, Charlie, Randy, and Matty stand out. (EDITED to change Matty to MORN4 instead of CPN4...typo)

Pre-Tribal and Tribal Council for sure. Crystal/Susie VS Kelly was epic and awesome. Anything will help and will be greatly appreciated! COMMENTS & QUESTIONS (A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. Very nice! I enjoyed the irony surrounding Kelly's first boot situation, I caught onto her commentary on the fire, but I didn't see it being reflected in her being booted first! Some nice development, but mainly on Kota. Ace, Dan, Corinne, Randy, and Michelle all look to be promising characters. I actually believe one of those five will be the winner; preferably Dan from what I've seen so far. Fang on the other hand seems to be either nobodies or strategists. With Bob, GC, Jacquie, Marcus, and Sugar in the former category and Crystal, Susie, Matty, and the now departed Kelly in the latter. I think Fang still needs to be fleshed out a bit, but maybe they'll have time for it to happen; however, I feel Fang is going to be shifting every episode and Kota will overshadow them as the complex tribe. However, Fang has Crystal, who is a great character! (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? I really liked the development of Kota, I'm surprised at how much I actually like them all, despite the negative tones surrounding some. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 8. A strong episode, but I know you have greater prepared. 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? Dan. 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 2? Susie (B) Which castaway will be sent to Exile? Bob (C) Do you have any other predictions for Episode 2? The group of Bob, Sugar, Marcus, and Jacquie will join Matty to go against weak Susie. On Kota, Gillian will probably be singled out for being the weakest member of the team, and thus, must be cut. 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Hello YemaGrl1988! Thank you very much for your comments! I had a feeling that you would like this episode because I
know you're a big Crystal fan. I really appreciate you giving the episode a 10. I feel it's my best premiere yet, but there are some even better
episodes to look forward to this season.
I'm glad it's a good I'm not sure if you saw in the notes, but the episode is titled "I'm Actually Pretty Intelligent," which comes right out of Kelly's confessional and adds more to the joke of her edit. Thirdly, I think you did a DEAD on job for Crystal. There is no doubt in my mind that she would have done that in the same situation. I love the Barbie/Ken quote.Thank you, and believe me there is more to come from Crystal. She is a GREAT character to be writing for. Fifth, Fang is interesting. At first I was SO SURE, Fang would go to tribal and one of Ace/Michelle/Dan would be voted out. I also thought they would be the more crazy dynamic tribe, which I think it's about a tie because both tribes are pretty different. Hopefully, there is more drama.Yes, a lot of people were thinking that Fang would be the crazier tribe, but I said for a long time that both tribes would have very interesting and different dynamics. I broke them down this way on purpose and I love the stories that go on on both tribes. This is just the beginning. :) That makes me very happy! I appreciate your positive comments. Kelly calling Tribal Council... Immunity Council. I don't know if this was a typo but it was funny. It was intentional, just like her saying "a flint" instead of just flint and "It's better to BE an alliance" instead of "be IN an alliance." The only thing is that I *think* someone said Immunity Council in Borneo, so it's not as original as I would have liked. Thanks. I've really put a lot of effort into this season and I'm trying to make these episodes the best yet. I really appreciate you giving it a 10. :) Finally, thanks for your predictions and for filling out the Popularity poll. Really? I thought she got into it pretty quickly. It was almost half the season before she got a bitchy/N episode on the real show. But no worries. There is more bitchiness to come from her. Gillian - 6 (I am happy she is fitting in so far)Sadly, I wasn't able to fit much of her into the episode, but there is more to come next week. Marcus - 5 (I see him and Jacquie becoming an alliance?)Yeah; I was trying to hint at this very subtly. Good for you for picking up on it. Susie - 10 (I loved her!)Glad to hear it. At least she wasn't ignored like on the real show! :) Thank you again for all of your comments. They were a pleasure to read and I'm glad you enjoyed the episode so much. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season and have a great night! :) |

Hello SFC! Thanks a lot for your comments on the episode, and for replying so quickly. I remember that you were always
one of the first to comment. Also, just to let you know, I plan on reading much more of your comic tomorrow, so I'll PM you more comments then.
I enjoyed it Kelly was a good character, but I think it was good to get rid of her early because if she stayed too long she may have gotten repetitive.Thanks. This was what I thought about her as well. It was either get one good episode out of her or give her a few episodes where she wouldn't have been as great and you're exactly right, she would have been repetitive. I think she was a fun character... for one episode, so that's all I could do with her. Dan looks very winnerish right now, but I just don't think he is, for most of the time he seemed to be narrating the whole Fang camp, and I do take the fire thing into consideration since it was mentioned in your notes, but he just seems so obvious, and with you even saying Tracy was an obvious winner last season, I dont think you would do that 2 seasons in a row.Whether he wins or not would have nothing to do with the fire. But just to throw some reverse psychology out there, the best thing would be for me to do another more obvious winner because everyone is looking for something else and if no one expects the obvious winner to win, that makes them less obvious, right? Aras, Yul and Earl won back-to-back season with similar edits, so it's certainly not out of the question. I'm glad Marcus was ignored, meaning he doesnt win :D. Randy was everything I expected him to be, which was great, and I hope he lasts longer than in the real Gabon.Marcus got some significant development though - just not a lot of it, but yes, the lack of a confessional probably isn't good. Glad to hear you enjoyed Randy as a character. Like Crystal, he's fun to write for. Kelly, she was just funny, How many times did she say "Like"?I have no idea how many times. She said "definitely" a lot too, I think. Thanks for the 9. That's a great start. Hopefully there will be no more sad boots, then. :) Kelly: What did you think of your edit? Thanks. I will definitely ask this or something related to it. It might be more along the lines of was her edit accurate or something like that. Thank you for your predictions and for filling out the Popularity Poll. Matty - 1I remember you saying he'd be the worst possible winner, so hopefully he doesn't win. I'm guessing Marcus is the second worst for you. Excellent job on your Edgic ratings. As always, they are very close to what my intended ratings were. I had her just as OTT neutral, but I'm not against a negative. I'll see what other people do first. Randy - CP4 (I could see N, but to type for Randy he has to have some N for Randyism)Yeah, this is what I thought to. I was leaning a bit towards negative, but I'm not sure if there's anything explicit that seals me going in that direction. It could definitely end up being neutral. Thanks again for your comments. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Hope you have a great night, and enjoy the rest of the season! :) |
