Okie? Have you been reading about MB's "reenactments"
of events that took place. Do you think that he's pulling strings rather than giving us the right scoop? How do you think this might effect our spoliaging? Syn the curious. ~wigglin her mess - y bottom~ Thanks for the tag, BEEF!!! **blown kisses** Bright blessings of love, light and laughter to you and yours~~~

Re: okie? | ||

I think there are two separate issues here. One is whether or not MB is influencing the course of events, as alleged in the Stillman suit. Legal ramifications aside, even if he is influencing the contestants he will tell the story he wants to tell in the end. Whether the story is manipulated or not, he can massage it in editing. He's going to show us what he wants us to see, so it's our job to figure out where it is he's taking us.
As for the latest issue of using stand-ins, this may be more significant to us as spoliers. The possibility exists that at some point we could be evaluating vidcaps of the doubles rather than the castaways. Take, for instance, our analysis of the aerial shots of camp trying to determine the identity of the person dressed in red. Shots such as these are certainly the sort where doubles could be used without being able to tell that they are doubles. This could lead us down the wrong path. However, we already know that past previews with the actual castaways have been digitally altered, so I'd say that while it adds another kink into the game, on the whole it really doesn't change things too much. Just one more reason to stay on our toes and question everything we see. Of course, that's just my opinion, ***I*** could be wrong. (Is that proper Syn-speak?) |

Possible manipulation?
|
Definite manipulation!
The greatest manipulation is with the challenges. In S1 few of the individual challenges called for raw physicality, in S2 nearly all did and they upped the physical nature after Alicia left leaving Colby with a great advantage. ___________ In the S1 contract (which is on the Sting Ray website) it states: "I understand the Producer reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change, add to, delete from, modify or amend the terms, conditions and rules affecting the conduct of the contestants on the Series, the Series activities, the elimination of Contestants from the Seriesand the granting of prizes. ___________ This rule states, in essence there ARE NO RULES. My italics indicate that Stacy has no grounds to stand on because MB has the power to eliminate contestants by any means he chooses appropriate including story building or "I don't like your attitude." |

At least we know that we have to have more to go on than just a person's basic physical structure. Maybe the rule should be if it's an overhead shot and there's no cameras showing don't trust it.

To all,
I'm hoping that I can be a useful member of the Mess team and help out as much as I can to help figure out the S3 series. Hopefully I will earn a badge in the process!! I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can about africa as well. It's going to be a great intellectual trip. I would say that there are many things that we can take from S2 and watch for them in S3. Even though MB himself has suggested that this year we are going to see some changes to the show. Wonder what that is?? Format, Rules (I guess thats the same). Hopefully we will see some new IC's and RC's. Maybe we should look for news regarding that as well. Who knows on with the cracking. |

I'm going to be doing a bit of research on the Maasai...can I have a badge too?
Maybe we can find something on the 'village' thing MB seems to mention so much.

since the lowly peasants (MESS members) are not allowed to start a new thread, and we have to convince you to make a new one if we think one is needed, i thought this was the right place to throw out my idea. how about if MESS has a slogan that we all use for the "custom signature"? I thought i'd just throw a first idea out.
Don't MESS with us. think my idea's lame or not? please re, i'm curious |

Newpaper inquiries | ||

I sent emails to Africian newpapers asking about coverage on Survivor, so far this is my only response.
Do you think we might get more coverage if we all emailed, they might see more interest? I will make inquiries and see what we can get. Are you offering a fee for this service, by the way? Visit our website to get the latest news and information and the best bargains.The Classified ads are FREE. edit to add: How about putting together an ad for the free classifieds along the lines of, "US Survivor fans looking for African fans to help spoil Survivor III???" |

Wezzie:
The mods/Beef do a great job keeping people "on track". Although I don't believe it's happened yet, those who attempt to start superfluous threads, flame previous posters, generally make a nuisance of themselves, etc. will be banned. Threads that don't "belong" are locked. This may seem excessive to some, but I believe it a necessary evil. As you yourself pointed out, the Spoilers board is rife with threads that have nothing to do with real spoiling. I (for one) don't want that here. I am interested in 'real' spoiling - deduce what we can from the info at hand, and come to logical conclusions based on those deductions. For the last 2 or 3 episodes of S2, that is exactly what occurred here in MESS. I'm hoping that we continue spoiling right into S3, S4, S5, and beyond the way we've been doing it so far. Sure, we had some successes, and we had some flops as well - but look at our motto: "May we always be a little wrong" It fits! ZD You may say I'm a dreamer - but I'm not the only one

Quick note to dakicker:
Feel free to use whatever you want in your sig, and if others want to follow suit, great. As for having one common MESS sig throughout the MESS membership, well, we already have the "MESS member" user designator, and some folks have some pretty unique sig lines already that they might not want to give up, and I'm not sure I'd want them to give them up. Just remember that there are some basic rules to follow within the confines of the MESS, so if you carry the MESS name with you in some fashion into messages outside the MESS Hall you should maintain those same basic standards there, also. |

Re: Welcome to MESS Hall Tribal Council!!!!

Well, I for one am jumpin' on the MESS bandwagon with a new sig. My first sig, actually.
Secondly, I'd like to apologize to all mods/admins here for creating my own thread. I should have taken the time to read already established posts before I did so. Me so sohlly. Also, I'd like to add that who cares if MB uses body doubles? He can't change the outcome of the game by doing so (without having the contestants know about it). I mean, he can't find exact duplicates of the Survivor Contestants jumping up and down and celebrating their victory(ies). Alot of gameshows, if you watch/listen to the closing credits, say how some things were dramatized or edited without changing the results. MB is doing the same thing. It's no big deal. And just like the other things on the Spoilers board now, it's being thrown way out of proportion. And that's my buck fifty.

identities of castaways/Kenyan contacts
|
Hi All. Back for more! Great work all on the Africa research! I think it would help if we develop a network of contacts in Kenya who could help provide spoilers - especially during filming. The ad in the newspapers is a good idea I think, but we might want to take the word "spoil" out of the ad as they might not understand it. Perhaps we could word it more as a "Fan Club" or something?
Also, if we could just get one reporter over there really interested, i.e., an African Peter Lance, that would help out alot. They could help with alot of the local researching, as our Aussie pals did with this last season. How to find this person or people? Might be more difficult as I don't think they have aired Survivor in Africa, have they? I will go look for links where Kenyans might be found . . . universities perhalps, study abroad programs, etc. I think getting some Kenyans with internet access on board here might help alot. Also, I have a question for y'all: exactly how did the Stingray get the identities of the castaways? Was it from that Deep Kangaroo person? If so, has anybody asked him if he thinks he can get it again? I'm also trying to think about what tools proved most useful to us in our spoiling last time. Vidcaps I think were undoubtedly the most important. And having multiple sources of them (thanks Aja, Bungler, Paratrooper, and others) proved invaluable. So the more people who have that capability, the better. I might outfit myself with it . . . what do you need, a special card? special vcr? if somebody has that info I'd love to know. |

Re: Newpaper inquiries

Ha! Since I lived in Karen for a while, I can only help but laugh at the thought of the Karengatta Chronicle (little neighborhood paper) doing a big investigative story on SIII. But since all the wazungus (european/white people) live in Karen, that was the perfect paper to contact. Did you reply to Nick Russell? I'm also curious as to what your email said to make Mr. Russell want to know if you were charging $$ for the service? Would you be wililng to post your orginal email to the KC?
I sent an email to the Daily Nation, but like you have not heard back. YES! We should all contact the DN ... they'll catch on to the story if dozens of Americans start sending emails. Bea |

I've had some limited correspondence with Kenyan journalists in the past few weeks. No spoilers produced thus far, but I have gotten a couple of red herrings cleared up.
I just deleted the remainder of my message, because I'm not sure what advice to give on this issue. For now I think it's best just to say: spoil the show. Remember the old "flies to honey" axiom, though, and don't hit the possible Kenyan sources over the head with requests for information. Spoil smart (or Outwit... haha...) For my part, I'll keep working on contacts, though gently. |

First time poster... My work (which is small, just 3 employees)travels to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda both spring and summer yearly. We will be in Kenya during the time of filming, as well as the Arusha area (Maasai) of Northern Tanzania. We do development work and spend time in the smaller communities that are somewhat out of the way. A large portion of our work is with the Maasai. I do not know how I can be of help, but as this whole Survivor III gets going I see that maybe I can help in some way. My co-workers have been doing work in this area for over 20 years and know a great deal about the culture, language, geography etc. AND since we will be there (with email contact daily) I am hoping for tidbits of information that would be useful. The local people are very respectful of my work and would share info if it is known.
