Where does the black label fall in the johnny walker line? I know blue is the highest. Is there another brand that makes JW taste like used mouthwash or is it
pretty respectable?

I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly...

Yeah that really didn't answer my question. How does Laphroaig compare to JW blue?

Black Label is their 12 year old offering....one step above Red.
I like it, but it's not mind blowing. I prefer the Green Label which is made from 4 or 5 single malts. Gold is next up the line...made from older stocks and Blue (like you said) is at the top. |

I'll have three fingers of Glenlivet, with a little bit of pepper... and some cheese.

So Hugh if you only drink it a few times a month (usually only in fall/winter) which bottle would you get? Would I be much happier with gold compared to the
black which wasn't bad? Or should I just go one step up towards the green?

I have Green and Gold in the house.
The price is pretty comparable and I would say the Gold is more similar to the Black, but if I had to choose one it would be the Green. I also have a bottles of Lagavulin (similar to Laphroaig), Glenlivet (smoothest scotch I have tried) and Balvenie on hand. I've had most of them for years. |

I love poetry, and a glass of scotch, and, of course, my friend Baxter here.

The regular Blue Label is very nice, I have had it a few times in limited amounts, they sell Johnny Walker Red, Black, Gold, and Blue samples sets (each bottle is about 6 or 7oz, I think) There is a brand spanking new Johnny Walker Blue Label - "King George V" limited edition bottle with a royal warrant. At 7 bills for a 24oz bottle, dunno if I will try it.

What do you recommend for someone who doesn't like scotch but still wants to be pompous when he drinks?

Just stand among your mahogany smelling leather bound books, and let others figure out you're kind of a big deal

Oh a sample pack... well that makes things much easier.
Why is drinking scotch pompous? |

We have Gold at home.
Myhusband is a huge scotch fan and has at least 3 or 4 on hand always. He likes Oban, Balvenie, Macallan and Laphroaig. Last week he bought a bottle called Tomintoul(sp?). It is about the best scotch I've had outside of the 30 year old Laphroaig. |
