I feel if you look out the window of the Dollhouse, we'll see Wolfram & Hart.

"meh bandwagon" here as well.
It just doesn't seem to have the Whedon touch. But, am I recalling correctly that Fox made him reshoot the pilot? Maybe it'll improve with eps in which he has total control? |

agent Paul's sweaty kick boxing alone was worth it for me. I'm willing to give it a few eps before I make my final decision. So far - I'm not
totally disappointed.

But, am I recalling correctly that Fox made him reshoot the pilot? No, Fox had some issues with the clarity of the pilot but Whedon himself suggested doing an actual reshoot because he agreed with them (at least, that's what he's saying in his blog). He's good, but auteur-theory that everything he touches is great is a little silly - even in Buffy he was capable of writing some terrible episodes ('Family' </3) |

Ditts on the W&H heart. I still love Angel most, of all his series. It seemed the most intelligent and the most adult.

JRobbed wrote:I just assumed he was still a doll on an "engagement" that involved going under cover with the Russian mafia. Sort of an accident of the casting spoiling something. Could be wrong. I'm also in the enjoyed it camp. Lowered expectations helped. Not robbing a train with a spaceship also helped. For some reason I find the premise of wiping and rewiping someone's brain over and over again to be just a shade less believable than vampires and slayers and such. However, the dialogue that told us that the memories come from an amalgam of other people really helps since with the hostage negotiator and giving her memories of kidnapping and abuse would be beyond cruel without the explanation that it was an accident. The FBI stuff was well handled - sort of. Liked that they jumped right in with Helo already hot on the trail. His lines about how, with their memories wiped, the dolls have been effectively murdered is a good starting point for his storyline. So was his speech about rich people always wanting what they don't have. Good stuff to build on. I still think the "dream" dates idea is creepy. I was hoping any dates Echo went on would just be cover for some Sydney Bristow-esque shenanigans. |

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the prostitution angle at all.

I think he still is (I thought I saw him getting into one of the beds at the end) but if Echo is the only active doll this is going to get boring QUICK. Whereas the original pilot episode had both Victor and Echo active for most of the episode. |

Is the original pilot "out there"?

I've been looking for it but all I've been able to find was the script.

The pilot was definitely meh. My hub kept asking if we missed an ep somewhere. He didn't know anything about the show except it was a Whedon thing so he
had no expectations (aside from it being good...which it sadly wasn't). It does have potential, though, so we'll watch a few more eps before declaring
it unfit for clogging our DVR.

I watched in on Hulu and thought it wasn't bad. I was a little lost though, so I'm hoping for further clarification. I'd like to see what
"Echo" did in her past life to merit this. Also the "doe-eyed" vacant parts were not well acted.

Also, I just wanted to mention that my favourite part of the episode was Helo's sparring. I'm not entirely sure what was going on (the talking was very distracting), but it was a great scene nonetheless. |

I think the sparring scene was just to show, that no matter what happens, how beat down he is, he's never going to stop coming at you. Plus I think they
were also establishing that he can handle himself in a fight

In that opening scene when Echo is talking to the head of the Dollhouse before she enters the program, she talks about trying to "change the
world"(or something to that effect) and mentions a 'She'....there was a brief moment when I thought, could Whedon actually be using Faith for this
show without actually saying that she is Faith? Then that moment faded. I hope this show gets better.

Oh silly toasters, they're talking about the FBI agent LPMA.
