You mean challenges like the brick-laying in TAR10 that Tyler/James were the first to figure out The thing with alpha-males succeeding isn't just because the challenges are based on strength (since apart from the poorly-planned TAR4, they rarely are), it's because they're young and athletic enough to make it to the end without being as exhausted and when they make mistakes, they're usually fast enough to recover from them (which was Reichen/Chimp and David/Jeff's trademark). They could cast 11 teams of alpha-males as long as they actually had personalities, but 80% of them have been even duller than the token young couple in love.

The reason no one complains about F/F teams or couples as much is because women bring drama to the race. Men tend to deal better with stress, and as a result, they just run the race, and they don't bring anything to the table as characters. Yes, blondes might be boring, but for the simple fact that they're women, we have potential for a breakdown or them being sweetheart or SOME kind of personality. When you have boring alpha males who, due to their strength and inability to stress out too much, make it consistently far in the race, it's boring for the viewer.

The main reason they're not as boring is because there's been so few of them going the distance, so they've not wasted as much screentime. Dustin/Kandice certainly didn't objectively break down any more than Rob/Kim - and looking at their dialogue, they're certainly less entertaining than a team like Eric/Jeremy. (being a "sweetheart" is a pretty lame comparison too since that's no different than TAR1 Rob being a "hearthrob" to TWoP or Vent).

Actually, it isn't. This has been posted before, I think, but if you want just racing go watch the Olympics or some other pure sporting event. There is an entertainment factor involved in seeing how the teams' personalities define their ability to cope with the race and deal with each other and other teams. I wonder if the 'sweetheart' reference was not to viewer perception but to possible interaction with other racers. Edited to note a palin post.
