When others have posted after you, feel free to add new information in a new post rather than adding to the old post. Also, when others have responded to your post or have referred to it in their posts, please fight the urge to edit delete, i.e., replace the old message with "This message was left blank".

If no one has posted after you in a thread, you can go ahead and edit your post with new information. Editing grammar, spelling, bad links, etc. in old posts is fine. Also, if an old post is extraneous and was not referred to in a subsequent post, if it was made in error (e.g., a double post), or if there is some other legitimate reason for doing so you can use the edit delete.

Edit to add: Of course, removing personal info like names and email addresses from old posts is fine.
These aren't intended to be strict rules which allow no leeway for circumstances not mentioned above. They are guidelines which attempt to help maintain logical continuity in the discussions. Hopefully the need to go back and edit out inappropriate material or flames won't be necessary, and thus isn't an issue which needs to be addressed.
