Can't wait for the Movie! Dead Like Me Rocked
|
I think Henry Ian Cusick will be great as the new head reaper. Excellant choice! I can't wait. Mandy Patankin was awsome in the part but he must become
bored or something after the first few years on a series and always skips out. He was on Chicago Hope and wanted off before most of the cast so he ended up
doing guest appearances, then Dead Like Me, and Criminal Minds. I get the feeling he doesn't like Television very much.. I hate when they put him as a lead
because you know hes not gonna last the run of the show and his characters always shine. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the other reason the show was
cancelled besides no one at the time had Showtime. Best Series that went down the tubes before its time along with, Firefly, Dresden Files, Journeyman.
Don't these 20 somethings like SciFi? Or does everything need to be Saw and Hostel.

I just found this show this weekend and ended up watching the entire series -- awesome!!! Question, does anyone know what ever happened to Betty and,
relatedly, why that actress decided to leave the show so early? I liked her a lot better than Daisy.

Question, does anyone know what ever happened to Betty and, relatedly, why that actress decided to leave the show so early? I liked her a lot better than Daisy. They never clarify what exactly happens to Betty. My assumption is that she "moves on" like any of the souls. As for Rebecca Gayheart, I'm pretty sure she was involved in a hit and run around there and didn't want to be tied to a show so explicitly about death. At least that's what I've heard. |

I don't think that is correct as the accident happened in June 2001, whereas Dead Like Me was shot in 2003.I've read that on more than one Dead Like Me fansite. But, I also questioned the validity considering she either did the pilot and immediately decided against it, (thus being written out early season 1), or that was how it was going to be from moment one. We could always ask Ellen Muth. She's responsive to fans. |

For me the best thing about this show was that they didn't shy away from their somewhat brutal rules. These were people who didn't appreciate their
lives when they had them, and now have to learn/make up for that as they painfully let go of their lives. George in particular often paid the price for not
learning as fast as she could. No one really ever got away with anything (remember Daisy's boyfriend?).

They've been reairing some of the episodes on the CW.
Anyways the movie was suppose to come out this summer but I read that it was pushed back to early 2009? Anyone else heard anything? |

I liked this show but there were a few quirks keeping it from being as strong as Daisies or Wonderfalls. The first being Rebecca Gayheart leaving. They
substituted her with a character about half as interesting and half as great an actress and it felt like such an abrupt ending for RG's character. Also,
the tone seemed to shift a bit, not sure how but things seemed off and the show never quite recovered (not coincidentally, this is around the same time that
Bryan Fuller up and left). The other big problem involved George and her family. All of those subplots were boring as fuck and had absolutely nothing of
interest going on. "OMG! Her sister's depressed and acts completely unlike a normal human being and then her mom is like totally mean to her". I.
Dont. Give. A. Fuck.
So yes, pretty good show that could've been great. |

Laura Harris is an amazing actress, first of all.
Second, Betty's character may have been interesting, but it wasn't even remotely as complex, interesting, and layered as Daisy. There's absolutely no argument that could be made for that. Betty loved to jump off of things and her complexity was developed in one episode, the one she left in. Daisy, on the other hand, developed gradually and exploded in the second season with her need for love, her insecurity, and lest we forget her last thought, "Why has nobody ever loved me?" Jesus, that alone makes her far more interesting than Betty. I recognize Rebecca Gayheart had a lot of fans but her leaving didn't hurt the show at all. If anything, it kick started the season, and the storyline, reminding Georgia that even in death things are transient. ALSO, the storylines involving Georgia's family were not wasted. The one I had issues with was Joy's relationship with the black real estate agent, only because it wasn't necessary. But the storyline was building towards Reggie/Georgia interaction, building their relationship, so Reggie's reaction and growth after Georgia's death was necessary AND interesting. We got insight into the little kid reaper, the wonderful last scene of the series, plus a whole slew of other great moments. So yes, great show that could have been greater given support by the Showtime execs.Fixed. |

I wonder if Reggie is destined to be a Reaper. I think if the series progressed more would have been done with Crystal. My son thinks she is another Reaper
supervisor, maybe even Rube's secret supervisor. I love the kid Reaper. I really wish the series could have lasted one more season. I think the episode
with Joy on a date was showing that she was opening up emotionally and doing something she wanted. Love this show.

I agree that Daisy was a poor replacement for Rebecca Gayheart's character.

I hated Daisy at first but she really grew on me during the second season.
I still always wondered why Rebecca Gayheart was only on the show for such a short time, was there a reason for this? |

I think I disagree -- Daisy ended up being such a better character. Becca was too perkey all the time. She was the end result, the reaper who was ready to
move on. Even George is probably farther "along" than Daisy.

After hearing rave reviews about this show, I looked for clips on youtube. I was drawn in by George's pessimism and sullen attitude. I immediately went out
to my local Target and bought season 1 on dvd. Over the past 3 months I've been watching the episodes one week at a time. They sort of helped fill the void
that Desperate Housewives left during the writer's strike this past tv season.
Anywho, so, I finished watching the final episode of season 1 yesterday night. Just ordered season 2 through amazon.com because I couldn't find season 2 at any of the electronics stores in my area. Weird, cuz most of them still had season 1. I mean??? Anyway, Georgia's parents really remind me Bree & Rex from the first season of DH. Now I'm just eagerly anticipating the arrival of the season 2 dvd. Dead Like Me <3 Kinda sucks knowing that I'm half way through the series, though. This fantastic journey is halfway over at this point. It's going to be bittersweet. :-
