It's still quite shameful though. If my memory serves the Cubs are right there with us in the race to get there first.

DeBrun, the 10K includes losses as far back as the late 1800's.

Quote: Yeah, let's back to reality. Phillies won't win 115 games solely due to the fact they'll have the division clinched by Labor Day. As a result, I fully expect the Phils to rest their starters for nearly the entire month of September. Quote: Exactly. For example, in recent history, the Braves won 14 straight division titles while the Yankees and Cardinals currently have won 9 and 3 division titles in a row respectively. Quote: It sure is. Cardinals lost Weaver and Suppan who are irreplacable. Therefore, it's safe to assume the Astros will win the Central since they have significantly upgraded their pitching staff by replacing Pettitte and Clemens with Jenkins and Woody Williams. Btw, props to CRA for picking the Indians. I'm not saying they'll win the World Series, but I'm picking the Tribe to make the playoffs. Realistically, excluding KC of course, any of those 4 teams can win the Central. |

I like the Indians. Barfield is one of the more underrated upgrades during the offseason - getting him from the Padres was a steal.
Having said that, their pitching is still underwhelming to me. Cliff Lee and Jake Westbrook posted winning records last year, but their ERA's were lackluster, especially considering that they play in a pitcher's park. Sabathia can't stay healthy, either. Sowers could be a rising star. I'm just not all that high on their pitching, or else I'd say they have a good chance of going deep into the playoffs. |

Quote: The Phillies have 9,956 losses going into this season while the Cubs have 9,398 losses going into this season (and a +.500 record all-time unlike Philly) so I suppose the Cubs "are right there" with the Phillies in that they will hit the 10K loss this decade, but the Phillies are gonna hit the 10K loss mark THIS SEASON. |

Quote: The White Sox are not winning anything and the Tigers were a fluke. Hey Smithee...dude come on. This is the ROYALS we are talking about here. The Pirates of the American League. If they do break 100 losses I will be very shocked. |

CRA trying some reverse psychology.
Several people are down on the Tigers but where exactly have they downgraded? SP and bullpen are still in tact and Sheffield will add pop to the lineup. Quote: I've never been a big fan of Sabathia but he did post a 3.2 ERA in '06. Lee and Westbrook are not aces, but solid starters who both have had 14+ wins over the last 3 seasons. Sowers looks like a promising young lefty and Byrd is a quality 5th starter. Tribe have an underrated lineup. Hafner, Sizemore, V. Martinez, Blake, Barfield, Peralta. Not bad. Biggest problem was their dreadful bullpen but Borowski, Fultz, and even Roberto Hernandez should provide some stability. We've seen several surprise teams materialize in recent years. With the talent on their team, Indians can definitely emerge like the '05 Chisox or '06 Tigers. |

memyselfandi - you obviously missed the "if my memory serves" part of my post. Relax. I don't normally pay close attention to stats such as this and could care less anyway. All i remembered were the Cubs were #2
twisted - My post was in pure jest and in response to your jest. |

Yeah, it did suck. Although, there is nothing embarrassing about my team overcoming adversity (injuries to Pedro, El Duque, Floyd, Sanchez) and fighting valiantly only to lose to the eventual WS champs in a classic Game 7.
Oh well. I can always look on the bright side. Thankfully, I have no idea what it's like being a 22 year old sports fan and not experiencing any of my teams win a championship. Now that must REALLY suck. ETA: I'll join now. |

Only in New York does fighting valiantly mean losing with the bat on the shoulder
I gotta find a pic of that. |
