Not only am I excited by all of the screen time that the women are getting this season, but I'm absolutely ecstatic that so many of the underedited
characters of the first episode got substantial edits in this one.

The editing this season is pure genius, very classic, old-school type stuff. Not to mention casting finally got it right after several seasons of mostly bland
women and some bland men. And only 16 people. And no casting equally by race. This season rocks.

IMO, this season is looking to be fantastic. A lot better than the last three and looks like a head in the right direction to get Survivor back on track.

Jeff, who do you think was "bland"? To me, the only "bland" people in the past 2 seasons were Adam & Gary. I know that's an
unpopular opinion, since people think Gary was much better than he actually was (lying around saying "I can't function" for the final half of his
episodes and a condescending confessional towards Sylvia in the first half doesn't endear me to him at all, I thought he was boring as fuck. And I love
people from Minnesota!), but you're probably thinking of people like Rebecca, Brad, Rita, JP, Liliana, Jenny, right? Which I'll never understand why so
many people think that. Sure, they were underutilized, underedited and basically thrown the occasional scrap of editing, but I thought all of the above were
really interesting people.
Okay, now that I've went off on a tangent... I love this season too. So nice to see everyone with a confessional after the first 2 episodes. |

Hell, even the "characters" of CI were pretty dull (Yul, Ozzy, Parvati, Stephannie, Cristina, Flicka, Billy).I agree. Y'all are probably have relational biases and don't know it. I wouldn't call it racist, but everybody has psychological preferences and leanings towards different demographics among other things. I think people just have problems with relating to some of the minority players. People only really like them when they are numerical minorities, and you can view them as "the black person" of the season as opposed to 5 on a season, where fewer people stand out Hence why there are tests like these: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/ There was no qualitative difference between the people from the last 2 seasons and the earlier seasons. There was little Fiji and CI had in common besides the race ratios I mean, maybe there really was a qualitative difference between the CI and Fiji people that you guys just didn't like about them as characters. But since some people like myself didn't see a huge difference, it seems like something else is going on rather than them being truly more boring or less interesting than other seasons You're right. The past seasons were fine. However, I like Survivor seasons to be excellent. So far, China is excellent. I couldn't agree more Erik! I wonder why it's so great?
Jaime is the best character for sure lol. I can't wait for our showmance! I wonder how far our alliance with Sherea will go on the show. Hopefully
farther than our game

I'm one of the biggest CI bashers you'll find, but JP wasn't really a bad character, especially for an early boot. He wasn't super-interesting
by any means but at least he caused some drama and people could have an opinion about him. If the most boring characters of the season are on that level, then
I think the editors have done their job well (of course, that wasn't the case in CI).
Rebecca, Jenny, Becky, Liliana, Rita, Edgardo, Stacy, etc. could very well be fascinating people in real life but they brought nothing to the show, and as harsh as it sounds, that's all that matters. |

^Yeah, Stacy was a bitch and a bully in the snobby high-school girl kind of way. I wish they showed more of her too, especially since there are so many people
like her you meet and hate in real life. Same with Jenny. She could have been really awesome. Becky probably actually was pretty boring though.

predictable storyline enacted by boring, predictable characters.

IMO, the past two seasons have had so many boring characters, not because of race, but because they've had 19 or 20 players, and the editors seem to think
it's best to focus on one or two of them, something they didn't do even when they only had 16 players in EI. Jessica, Erika, Liliana, Rita, Edgardo,
Mookie, Cassandra, Stacy, Michelle (Basically the entire female cast except for Lisi and Sylvia) were barely there in Fiji. Rebecca, Sundra, Stephannie,
Cecilia, Flicka, Parvati, Becky, Jenny, Cristina (ONE woman out of TEN was interesting) were all barely shown. This season, thankfully, they're showing us
more of the women in the cast. Of course, the one player who's been basically invisible in BOTH episodes is female, but still, 7/8 ain't bad.

Barely remember Jessica, and I guess putting Erika on the list is wrong, but she was really just developed for that one episode, just like Liliana.

Erika had a fairly good edit both episodes she was in actually. It was no worse than Sylvia's, IMO. Her character had potential and I wished she (and
Sylvia) had gotten farther.

But they mostly left early, the gameplay was interesting and all of the Final 4 had interesting and complex story arcs. CI had "Yul is smart", "Ozzy can climb and swim" and "Jonathan talks a lot" Palau's probably the closest to CI structurally but they actually bothered to edit Ulong in all their tribal dynamics instead of spending 80% of the screentime at Aitu and failing to make anyone on Raro remotely likeable or entertaining. |

If the number of players was the issue, then you'd be hating on 20-strong Palau as well. And Fiji had PLENTY of characters. It doesn't make sense when people lump CI and Fiji together except for the race ratios. In terms of the criticism of players from each of those seasons, I still don't see what was so significantly more boring about those characters than the duds of all the other seasons. And I thought CI had some of the best females in the majority seasons I liked Fiji way, way more than CI. It doesn't have a damn thing to do with race. Then why lump Fiji and CI together? When people do that it seems really suspicious since those 2 seasons were like polar opposites. Fiji had a lot of intense people with edge, while Cook Islands was a lot more competitive and politically correct. Even Palau had a pretty obvious winner's edit with a 20-person cast, so people don't seem consistent when they only bash the last 2 seasons like they do. And seriously, the idea that people were so much more interesting in the other seasons is like . Again, how interesting was
Diane Ogden of Africa or even a sweetheart character like Liz from Outback? I found Rebecca's game more interesting than Elisabeth banking on "good
people" and even as a character, Rebecca started fire for her tribe and spearheaded the women power movement against JP. Elisabeth's best moment was
the heart-shaped rock she received from Rodg and saying she'd never vote for him. And that's it basically. Maybe Alicia's commentary that she was
playing hard too
What Fiji storyline? Everybody against the horsemen? That was about it. Dreamz vs. Yau-Man too, but the ending to that sucked, since I was a Yau fan CI is my favorite cast. I would've been content with like any of the players winning. Up until the mutiny, it seemed like the more deserving or stronger competitor won out, and all the weaker players lost like they should've (except for Cecelia). The matches between Raro and Aitu were very close, with no 1 tribe just dominating the other, and Aitutaki was much more interesting to watch win being the diverse tribe. Then the mutiny happened, which has never happened, and the Aitu 4 was a great underdog storyline, and it felt like every round was one of survival. Got a little predictable towards the end, but I really liked how Becky didn't take the idol at F4, and that the Aitu 4 wasn't just a sham for the sake of the game like so many other seasons (big contrast to Fiji). Then, the F3 was 1 of the most deserving and very much suspenseful
I know I could be wrong, and I'm not saying that's the issue for sure. But what else could it be? The things people are saying aren't consistent. It seems like the problem is some bias that makes certain people not appreciate or relate to the characters for whatever reason. I know I didn't have a problem, so the issue isn't that the cast was fundamentally worse. For that to be true, everyone would have to agree and see the same thing. So the issue is individual preferences, and I'm trying to understand why you wouldn't have taken to the cast like I did. Race seems as good as any bias, especially when people lump the very different Fiji and CI together |
