My family took 2-3 week trips every summer. I have spent the night in every state, save Alaska and Oregon.
Spent MAY a lazy day at some tourist traps. The bulk of them were complete horseshit.
One actual good one i remember. We started seeing signs for something called "†he Mystery Sopt" about 300 miles from it. I can't remember where on earth it was, but it counted down the miles, via billboard, as we got closer. My sisters and I started the whining wagon, and around 50 miles out, my pop finally agreed. The deal was that it was supposed to be this house at the direct center of the planet, or summat, and the rules of gravity, etc. didn't apply inside. In reality... they had just built each room on a different angle, and nailed/glued all of the furinture, paintings, clocks, appliances, and everything so it gave your brain the illussion that the world was askew. It was COOL to a 12 year old boy!!! They had about 15 different rooms. One had a pool table that had the balls rolling uphill. in the kitchen if you turned the sink on, the water would flow at a 30 degree angle. My favorite was a bedroom that when you stepped into it, you were at a 15 degree tilt from the floor. I had to lean so far forward, my face was about 2 feet from the floor. I also had a pictorial record of all the giant plaster "beings" at different restaurants, tire stores, muffler shops etc. 30 foot lumberjacks, and the like. I think there was an actual Donut Lad like in that one Simpson's Halloween episode. I had them in a photo album that got destroyed in a basement flood. I think I could do a really cool coffee table book out of those. Demon water!! ETA - Sorry heylucille, if I gave you the Heebies redux!
