Prior to China, I believe that you had to be 21. I'm really excited about China. The cast seems quite interesting, although I haven't really found a favorite contestant yet. The thing that makes me the happiest is that they did not bring back the "haves vs. have-nots" twist. IMO it was the worst.twist.ever. |

Worse than...
The Bottle Twist? Exile Island? The original, far too powerful hidden immunity idol that was never used in either season? The Outcasts? The Racial Quotas? The Nine Member Jury? The Final Three?
Man, its too easy to think of so many horrific twists the last few seasons. I'd have to go with the nine member jury, which has pre-merge boots being on the jury as the absolute worst. The Have Nots thing certainly is up there though. Had they just rotated it from episode to episode, or based on challenge wins it would have been a much better twist. |

Haves vs. Have-Nots was fine in theory, but they took it way too far.
The 9-member Jury existed to keep a racial bloc from having a 4-3 majority in the Jury and a member in the F2, so it of course disappeared as soon as the 5x4 Quotas vanished. |

The Have Nots thing certainly is up there though. Had they just rotated it from episode to episode, or based on challenge wins it would have been a much better twist. Everyone always says this, but Ravu only won one challenge anyway, and it was post-switch and in the episode where the season started to pick up, so giving the camp to each reward challenge winner wouldn't have changed too much. I think they should have given the luxury camp to the losers of the first challenge--do you throw it and lose a member but gain the impressive digs, or do you want to keep your tribe intact? Of course, it would go against the "winner take all" mentality that the show's always had, but then again, so did having a luxury camp in the first place. Worst twist for me is the final three. |

I guess the thing that ruined the haves vs. have-nots twist for me was that it made the show too predictable. Due to its huge advantage, Moto was able to set
the record for most tribal challenge victories in a row (9, I think). Thus, I was 99% sure that every episode after the first would feature another Ravu loss
and another Ravu visit to tribal council. A side effect of this was that we never got to see any of the strategy that was going on at Moto for the first couple
of episodes. The only exception to this was the twist where Moto had to choose to boot a member or go to the Ravu camp (which by the way is a rare but definite
counter-example to the winner-take-all mentality).
I do think that the losers idea presented by beatles20147, or the rotation described by Quiddity, would have been interesting, but the way haves vs. have-nots was was completely unacceptable. In the end, I guess I'm glad that all of the ridiculous twists that we have seen haven't lasted more than 1 or 2 seasons. It seems like there will be an HII or two again, but they will be the Fiji style and there will be no Exile Island for the strong men to get sent to all the time. |

Yeah, the "haves vs have nots" twist really annoyed me as I've always wondered how Ravu would've done without that twist. And the original
HII wasn't broken, it was like...."it's in the jungle somewhere, but if you want to use it, show it to jeff before the votes get rid", which
worked in my mind.

This cast has me very hopeful. 16 people, many of which are fans of the show and/or seem unique and interesting. This quote from an article is promising too:
Burnett says this latest round reminded him the most of the very first Survivor.
Now just hope the editing is good too. |

I read an article today where Probst mentioned a few things about the China season. It seems as if it is the first time he has talked AFTER the game has ended.
These may be spoilers to some, but they aren't boot spoilers or anything like that. Don't read if you really don't want to know, though as someone
who actively avoids spoilers, I don't consider them to be spoilers.
- People who are kidnapped are sometimes starved into revealing secrets about their tribe and making alliances with people on the opposite tribe - The hidden immunity idol is hidden in plain sight in both camps, but no one will realize it at first - There will be a final three, not a final two |

There will be a final three, not a final two That annoyed sigh you just heard was every iota of enthusiasm I had for this season evaporating. I mean, I'm glad it's back to 16, but what's the point with a final three? I think we might be in for the first 13-episode season since Borneo. Whatever. It'll probably be better than the last two seasons but I was hoping the fact that they got rid of Exile Island meant that they finally realized they can admit to a mistake and restore things to the way they should be. Guess not. |

I can't agree with you more beatles. I was so pissed when I read about it in the article. I'm guessing we will have 13 regular episodes and a recap
thrown in there somewhere. Damn it. I hate when recaps take up a whole week. Remember what they did during the Marquesas season? They had a recap on Wednesday
and then a regular episode the night after on Thursday.
However, the part about starving kidnapped people for information sounds interesting. We could be seeing a good villain this season, and a complex merge. |

Ugh. Another final 3?! Why, for the love of god, why?! One of these days, there's going to be a tie. It's bad enough to have tie breaks and
re-votes during the regular season. But I would absolutely hate to see a fire making challenge decide who gets a million dollars. Even worse, a purple
fucking rock!

Didn't last season prove that it doesn't guarantee a suspenseful finish? At least with a final two like Tom/Katie and Danni/Steph where you know
what's gonna happen, you can have fun watching the jury blast the goat. With a final three, they just ignore them.
Remember what they did during the Marquesas season? They had a recap on Wednesday and then a regular episode the night after on Thursday. Oh yeah, I loved that. I know it was only because the season started so late (February 28--don't ask me why I remember that), but it actually made the recap feel like a bonus and not a waste of time. However, the part about starving kidnapped people for information sounds interesting. We could be seeing a good villain this season, and a complex merge. True. I'll try to keep an open mind up until the finale. But I don't care how much I like the winner/how well they play, because the final three taints the end IMHO. It's not the way the game was designed and it doesn't make any sense--besides, didn't it cost CBS more money last season since both Dreamz and Cassandra got $100,000? |

ROCisHOT wrote: Well, assuming the jury is back to 7 people, the only possible tie is one that can be settled easily by having the dissenting voter cast the deciding vote
between the two players who each recieved 3 votes. They no longer risk the 3-3-3 possibility, even if it was unlikely to ever happen.

Darn, the main reason I was excited for this season is because it looked like there wouldn't be a final 3. Hopefully the editing is good enough to balance
it out, otherwise this might be another disappointment
