Hurricanes are one thing I don't miss. Although the retarded banter between Bill Kamal and Rick Sanchez would destroy faster than the actual storm. But
aren't they both in jail or on the national news or something now?

The traffic signs on the way home said something along the lines of "Hurricane Forming in Gulf, Keep Gas Tanks Full." They might as well added
"The End is Nigh" while they were at it.

Don't be too sure about that. When Wilma hit, it came all the way from the west, travelled across the state of Florida and was still a Cat 3 when it hit us on the east coast. 60 miles inland is nothing for a powerful storm. |

News has been talking about the fucking weather for three days straight now. I think they WANT a massive hurricane. Welcome to Amurica! |

Trixie, I'm just going by what the only sane weatherman said during Rita. He showed it hitting about 10 miles east of Houston and by the time it got to my
house it would have been down to 80-100 mph. Maybe since Florida has water on bith sides, it's get pumped up from both sides?
OK, I had to go research it (I'm bored): Here's some research from NOAA http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/C2.html A hurricane can cease to have tropical characteristics through several different ways. One such way is if it moves over land, thus depriving it of the warm water it needs to power itself, quickly losing strength. Most strong storms lose their strength very rapidly after landfall and become disorganized areas of low pressure within a day or two. There is a chance a hurricane could regenerate if it managed to get back over open warm water.^^ paraphrased from wikipedia |

CBRetriever wrote: That is basically what happened with Katrina. I think it was a Cat 1 when it hit Florida, but it was able to make it across and reform in the Gulf. TS Allison was really wierd. It hit Houston went to about Austin before it came back to Houston and sat there for 10 hours. |

Buggles, if Houston is on the east side of landfall, then we're on the wet side and will get lots of rain. On the west side, we'll get very little. We
didn't even get much from Rita when it hit at the LA-TX border.

latest models...a slight south allignment...history tells us that guidance slides right as it approaches the gulf coast...it all depends on the ridge to our
north and east...if Dean can find a weakness in that ridge as some mets say, models will slide north and east
