NC and VA could use a tropical storm, it would go a long way to putting out the fires in Beaufort and the Great Dismal swamps.

You know whats going to happen? George Bush and the federal government will intentionaly make a hurricane hit again like Katrina so he can be called racist
again. But you know what I would do? I would rebuild an area thats 20 feet underground after everyone has relocated, that way when another one hits and floods,
they can blame the local authorities for not getting them out, even though they were told a day ahead to get the fuck out! And then claim they had to loot
stuff like T.v's and stereos, game systems, to SURVIVE. Even though there is no power.

There's a lot of Saharan Dust in the atmosphere this year - should help keep the storms from developing or developing as strongly.

This one has a much more southwesterly starting point than the area from which Bertha began.
Those tracking models don't look good. This one's worth keeping an eye upon. |

94 is now TS Dolly.

There's also a hurricane SW of Baja California, but it's expected to lose power. Dolly's not expected to gain much strength, either - the water
temps.are fortunately just slightly not warm enough at present for them to gain significant power.

Actually the waters are very warm for Dolly - it was a pressure system creating shear that kept her from developing. Now, the hurricane hunters have found
closed circulation as the pressure system diminished and there is no longer high wind shear.
edited to add: She is expected to go over the Yucatan, then on to the Tex/Mex border as a category 1

let's see if the forecast track slips to the right like it usually does...new model runs come out later this afternoon

The waters are warm, true, but I read a snippet last night that they're right on the cusp as far as being warm enough to sustain big growth. Dolly could
move over a hot patch, though, and possibly gain strength in a hurry. The models I've looked at don't project her to develop into a 'cane, though.
I've also been wondering why she's being projected on that straight northwesterly path, as opposed to taking the clockwise curve that they're typically projected as having. I guess that they're expecting a High pressure system that's currently off the coast of Texas to pull her in, basically, and prevent her from turning north. |

Warmer temps when she crosses the pennisula:
I suspect a more northerly path, too. Here's the historicals for Dolly's location/time: |

I expect at least 5 headlines saying "Hello Dolly" when this storm hits.

As a resident of South Texas who is not only trying to sell her house, but is also trying to move to Austin in two weeks, why do I have a feeling this Dolly is
going to come and fuck with my universe? Because I'm me. We've already been put on alert at work to prepare for shelters. Well, at least my other
co-workers were. Since I'm leaving, I think they're leaving me out of it. Hopefully, nothing comes of it. Last year, we went through with a massive
drill for a hurricane that never materialized and I swear, these people WANT a hurricane to come hit us so they can put all their training to use.

Yea, I've noticed the hurricane experts get a litlle storm buzz of these warnings.

E Love, I think that they might once again not get to use it... 'cause this bitch HAS started moving in a more
northerly direction, as Salty, Seal, and I were discussing above. She's moved about 2 degrees north while moving about 1 to 1 1/4 degrees west over the
last 7 hours... that's primarily north.
I've been checking her movement here-and-there throughout the day today, and she has taken a distinct turn of direction. About 12 hours ago, they were projecting her to be over the Yucatan Peninsula at 8AM tomorrow morning... hell, she's almost skirted completely north of it as of right now. She's gonna have to take a mighty hard jog to the west to even move over the very northern tip of the YP. I can't post the animation itself here, but check out the following link to see her. Of course, it'll be totally different tomorrow (it's a 7 hour .gif animation that updates automatically). Link: Dolly infrared color animation loop Get gas early on Monday, folks, 'cause oil's already jumped up about $1 / barrel Sunday night. Judging by how she's changed her course, I'd be surprised if she doesn't continue on her northerly track... and if that presumption turns out to be true, once the NWS updates their tracking models (quite possibly at 5AM Eastern today - if not then, they'd likely do it at 11AM if they're gonna do so at all), and show her heading straight up into the midst of the Gulf (as she's tracking right now), oil futures are gonna take another damned upward spike tomorrow. Great. As it's looking right now, I'm projecting that her path's gonna take her somewhere between the midpoint of Louisiana to Tampa. Let's hope that she hits some cold water somewhere in the Gulf. ETA: And she's now taken a slight jog to the west, yet again!! Predicting them is an educated guess, at best. *L*

Dolly upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane 13 minutes ago
MIAMI - Forecasters say Dolly has become a hurricane and is heading toward southern Texas and northeastern Mexico. Dolly was upgraded from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane Tuesday afternoon and some strengthening is forecast before landfall Wednesday. At 5 p.m. the center of the storm was located about 165 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, Texas. Dolly is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph, and maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph. A hurricane warning is in effect for the coast of Texas from Brownsville to Corpus Christi and in Mexico from Rio San Fernando northward. An anal sex party in the area has been postponed. |

Holy crap. Did Dolly happen to hit Cancun or the eastern part of the Yucatan sometime around...12:00 or 1:00 on Monday? I have a feeling that I just missed
being caught in that hurricane.
