CNN.com is airing "live" coverage from September 11th, 2001 in real time as it happened on the actual day. Just a few minutes ago at 9:02am, the second place hit the towers. It's actually really interesting to watch "as it happens". I know for me, I was only 13 when it happened so I think watching it now again, I can really fully understand it.

This will be playing in real time thru tonight at midnight.
It's crazy how watching the footage in real time makes me feel anxious and upset.....yet when I've watched replays on the news, it usually doesn't phase me. I think it has to do with the way that everyone seemed so confused that day. The reporters are trying to "argue" that it was some sort of navigational malfunction that caused the planes to hit the towers. I guess we didn't want to admit the obvious. |

I'm watching this, and can't help but remember the thoughts that the world was ending...
First one tower, then the second.. then finding out about the pentagon... and fires and explosions (and rumors of other bombs and explosions).. then the last plane in PA... I remember vividly thinking omg.. when will it stop.. is this it? the end? Even hours after with no new attacks, I held my breath waiting.. |

'Somber' is the descriptive word in my mind at present as I'm watching this rebroadcast of the CNN coverage of that most infamous of days.

Everytime one of my shows went to commercial, I'd tune into CNN just to relive that day and read the names of the 2,900+ people who lost their lives. It still stings just thinking about it.

I wound up spending this evening with CNN on the morning of September 11, 2001.
I just hit the point when CNN reported that a 747 had gone down in Pennsylvania. I was listening to Bob Edwards on the radio at that point on that awful morning and distinctly recall his stricken voice stating that the missing flight had crashed in Pennsylvania. I credit CNN for their video. But wow: they taped the second airliner going into the south tower and their bobbleheads on air don't realize it until two minutes later. Later they didn't get the comtemporaneous information that there was a fourth hijacked plane in the air: they didn't mention United 93 until this point, whereas the radio newsmen knew enough about it to know that there was a fourth hijacked airliner in the air. As I was typing, I just hit CNN 10:49am and their guy in DC mentions a 2nd strike on DC averted What was going on with the early reports of a fire on the Mall and at the State Department? This is wrenching. I'm riding this out. |
