Bruce is right-handed. There are three lefties on EI which is three more than Vanuatu, Palau and Guatemala combined.

Lefties are more creative, theatrical and more of them think in a wider margin than not. I should know.

I'm left handed, hate scissors in general, and steer away from them as much as I can, but I end up using right handed scissors in my left hand. I can kick with both and I'm fairly strong writing with my right hand, not perfect though, just need practice.
Always have to have some love for someone who is left handed, no way I can't. |

As I use a left-handed mouse, I love it when someone comes up to look for something on my computer and can't figure out what is wrong with the mouse. Psyche!
It is almost like password protection. LOL. |

Pretty amazing that three of the five remaining castaways are all left-handed, and pretty left-handed.
They all chopped ropes with their left-hands, not to mention writing with it. |

In S1 (Palua Tiga) I remember Rich and Gretchen doing some things lefty, such as shooting a slingshot. Another mentioned that Jenna L shot the bow lefty, although she seemed to be righthanded otherwise. It was obvious that she had never shot a bow before. (I don't remember whether she ever shot a bow on All Stars.)
In Africa, Frank shot a bow lefthanded (and quite inaccurately with poor technique after saying that he was a bowhunter). I've never really made a point of noticing handedness on the show, however. Remember the 1992 election, when Clinton, Perot, and Papa Bush were all lefties? I tend toward ambidexterity with my hands. I can write lefty, but have to produce mirror writing to get any production. However, I am very rightfooted, which limited me severely as a soccer player years ago. I'm left-eye dominant, which means that if I point with both eyes open, my finger lines up on my left eye. I have to close my left eye when I aim a rifle with my right. When I'm using shovels and other two hand garden tools, I tend to do it (what others consider) left-handed. Seems to me that when you are handling a shovel, the hand at the middle of the handle does most of the lifting, even if the handle is near your left shoulder. I believe violins and other bowed instruments are always played righthanded. A lefty violinist would be very conspicuous in the string section of an orchestra. Paul Simon plays his guitar righthanded, but seems to do everything else lefthanded. I believe the lefty pro golfer Phil Mikkelson is actually righthanded. I've never really understood why there are no, or at least very few, lefthanded catchers in baseball. Seems to me that being lefthanded would help on throws to first base, either pickoff moves, fielding bunts, or completing the home to first double play. On the latter two, a lefty would be less apt to hit the baserunner with the throw. You never see lefty shortstops either, and I see no disadvantage for a lefty there. |

The arrow thing is interesting.
Chad wrote write-handed but shot the arrow left-handed. I mouse and eat left-handed. Aras seemed to be very left-handed. Actually so did Cirie and Shane. I still think it is pretty amazing that we had a left-handed majority in the final 5. |

People like Rich and Gretchen are probably left eye dominant, which is why they'd shoot left handed. Me for example; I'm right handed but have to shoot guns and bows & arrows left handed since I'm left eye dominant or I can't aim properly.

Re: Survivor Southpaws
Quote: On a side note, a good way to tell if you're left or right eye dominant is this: Pick a spot in a room about 10 feet away. Take your thumb and hold it in front of your head where you think that spot exactly is. Now close your left eye and keep the right eye open, do this with the other eye as well. Whichever eye open keeps your thumb at that spot you picked is your dominant eye. I've also noticed that a lot of survivors who are right handed, will shoot the slingshot left handed, etc. I'm not sure if it's because we're all a bit ambidextrious or they've never shot slingshots before and are probably doing it wrong? Who knows... |

Fuck yeah for the awesome Casaya leftie alliance of Shane, Cirie, and Aras. |

I haven't noticed any lefties this season yet, has anyone else?
We probably won't match the lefty-powerhouse of last season where 3 of 5 we're correctly handed. :) |

Wow, I have always been meaning to go back and watch all of my tapes to determine this--I should have known someone already would have :)
I could swear I counted someone in Australia lefty, but I can't find my notes. Certainly, last season was a bumper crop! Another lefty here (though, like many, not 100% so...eat righty but cut lefty; do grooming hygiene [shaving, toothbrushing, hair combing] and play golf righty. Am ambidextrous in tennis or batting). I recommend this book for the most interesting study of Left- ve Right- handers and what traits do in fact show up more among lefties. |

I think Peter from Marquesas was left-handed. Yeah, I'm a lefty too, and I wouldn't really change that. Hell, I even wrote left handed when I broke that arm.

Re: Survivor Southpaws

There seem to be hard-lefties, who write and do everything predominantly left-handed, but then people in the game who are soft-lefties who write left-handed, but do a lot of other things right-handed. Then there are ambis, of course. I'm a soft-righty/ambi. I write right-handed because that's how I was taught, but I can write and do most things with both hands. Then here are hard-writies who write and do most things predominantly with their right-hands.
I think a lefty list should include hard and soft lefties. Ambis and soft-righties who throw a spear or aim a bow with their left hand could be noted. I'm really surprised how many people writie with their right hand but do archery with their left. |

Does left-handed archery mean you draw the string with your left, or hold the bow with it?
