I'm confused, it sounds like Idol is begging Other Companies to fork up the money. And trying to take credit for Giving Back- they should be giving all the money - all they are doing is signing up sponsors to shell out the money. They will probably also be begging us viewers to shell out the money. it should be called Idol Gets Other People to Give Back.

I think Ryan said that 19E is donating. Obviously, as long as they donate the most miniscule amount ever, they can still make that claim.
I think it would be great to see Simon & Co. put up the first donations on Wednesday's telethon. And I think Ryan was on to something when he asked Simon to get up and perform for a certain amount of money. They should've taken that idea and run with it. Would've been more fun than clip after clip of pre-recorded guest performances and World Vision-esque video footage. |

I sponsor a child through Children's International for $21 a month from Chile.
The above organization and Save The Children have some of the most OPEN books of any charity and the majority goes directly to the sponsored child and their family. It's like the entire family gets "adopted and nutured" when one of their children is sponsored. I've watched this child grow from a very malnonurished 4 year old to a much more healthy and now educated 7 year old. I get regular communication and information about his progress from the child, his family and his local field office that coordinates all of the help given the entire family. Just saying..if you are going to give to anyone...research well and know where your money is going. That's what I did through various global websites before I decided who to contribute to. I am on SSD and can't afford to help some meglamaniac corporation take a huge tax write-off. Which is how I see anyone involved with IGB. |

gently is absolutely correct. It is important to research and know any charity to whom you contribute.
I'm sure that all of the charities to whom IGB will be donating have done some good things. My suggestion, however, would be to help all these causes by donating to the Democratic National Committee to help elect a person who actually gives a shit about the rest of the world rather than continuing to alienate the rest of the world. Another suggestion, in the event anyone is looking to contribute in a positive way and for the money to stay here in the USA, consider Emily's List. It is an organization dedicated to assisting women candidates in being elected and to close the gender gap in U.S. government. |

If there were to be such a thread in this forum, discussing viable charities, it would need to be AI-specific. For example, an examination of AI's "charitable works" versus other companies which do similar "charitable works" might work. But that kind of in-depth discussion doesn't really belong in the PBP thread. |
