Peggy is more of a "mate" to Don than Betty.
What we need to remember is that ultimately, the most important and fascinating relationship in this show is between Don and Peggy. This story began with her getting hired as his secretary, and when the chips are down they are always there for each other. No two other characters on this show-even Pete and Trudy-are as close and they are the two characters that I don't think the show could survive without.
