Comparing sales really puts the failure of Kelly Clarkson's newest album into perspective. Seven months after its release, she was still able to sell more
CDs (6,000) than Blake Lewis could the week his new CD got released (4,000). I'd guess that if Blake ever does do a third CD, he will be pressing and
selling it himself. Anyway, Kelly is now only 59,000 copies behind My December (729,000 vs. 788,000), and with sales holding up so far she has a genuine chance
of passing it over the holidays. That would only be the second time in history that an American Idol singer sold more copies of a CD than their previous one
had, with Kelly being the one who did it both times.
I am astonished at how poorly Jordin's CD Battlefield is doing (129,000). Her first CD was nothing special, but otherwise she's made all the right career moves (singing at the superbowl, opening on tours for a wide variety of people) and Battlefield got very good reviews. But most people who bought the first one obviously weren't interested in hearing more from her. Is there something wrong with her career that I'm just not seeing?
