~ 56. SYLVIA KWAN ~
Many probably didn't even realize that Sylvia was still in this ranking because my love for her is so unnatural and random. Well learn to accept it, because Sylvia is awesome. No one ever really mentions Sylvia when they bring up people who were screwed by twists, but Sylvia was fuuucked by a twist right off the bat in Fiji. I will now refresh your memories: the group of nineteen was asked to select a leader. They selected Sylvia because she was SUCH an HBIC it was undeniable. So Sylvia got to divide the tribes into two groups of nine. Sounds fine, right? WRONG. Because then Sylvia was sent to exile and only got to return to join the LOSING team. So just for being chosen as a leader she was automatically put on the losing team which in this case meant that she would also automatically be in the "have not" camp and thus doomed to be on the constantly losing team until a tribe swap. And she didn't even get to fight for the chance to win the challenge, she was just herded off to exile. All for being a boss bitch. So unjust. Her high placement on this list is an attempt to rectify that injustice by acknowledging what a strong, educated, powerful woman she is.
On Sylvia's personality: Sylvia is a take-charge breathe of fresh air, unafraid to let her tribemates know that she is both intelligent and strong-willed. I admired the way she took the reins and led the entire group (and later, her loser suckass tribe she was defaulted into). Some younger, skinnier azn bitches (AHEM MICHELLE) thought that Sylvia should be more complacent and passive, but really that just proves what a pathetic follower Michelle is.
On Sylvia's gameplay: Sylvia's failing was that she was screwed by a twist, and also that she was a little domineering. Her tribe was an aimless, passive disaster right from the start and they did not want to be steered in any general direction. Can you imagine having to work with people like Rocky? No, you cannot. Being an older woman with a mind of her own I was surprised to see her even last as long as she did.
On Sylvia's placement: As I have probably made clear, I like Sylvia. She got a raw deal on the show and she's the only older asian woman ever to appear on Survivor. After the show I saw her on "Extreme Homes" on HGTV. She designed a house inside a stone bluff in the desert and I was very excited to see her. My love for ~strong, independent women~ led me to place her this high, but sadly she just isn't a big enough deal to me or Survivordom in general to be any higher.
