Maybe at the end of this season, they blow up the island. And like we saw with Charlie's death, fate still happens. So, now the plane still crashes and they all meet, etc. but a totally different way. Like Charley still died, but in a different way (not lightning or drowning).

That would leave us wondering after the cliff hanger, because we know that "what happened, can't now happen" but come next season, the losties still meet and possibly crash etc.
