As for "Mars" on the brit show, Mars was an acronym for the task force that Sam was on, to study corruption at the precinct. And, it was revealed to him that he had lost his parents when he was a kid and that his name was something else and that he was hit by a car,etc which explained his bouts with amnesia. So, Sam in the Brit show was a plant, to investigate the cops and to bring in his boss "Guv'nor"
I did, that wasn't the final ending part, but that was how they came up with MARS. I know what happened after that, but I don't know how to do the spoiler thingy.
