Thanks Sucksters for the responses. When I tried to start getting into shape/exercising last month my goal was to gradually turn into a jogger who jogs about a mile a day but my legs are not agreeing w/ me (my thighs get heavy and start burning even if I am on a flat surface after like 3 minutes..it's bad) so I wanted to know how much less than walking was instead.

The good thing about running instead of jogging will be the afterburn. After you're done with the exercise and you're sitting on your butt watching TV, if your heart rate was up high for a longer time, then you'll burn calories at a faster rate for the next few hours.

Does that only work if you eat right after a workout or can you come home and then not eat for a couple hours and you will still burn the food as if you had eaten right after?
