I looked it up, and indeed there is only one Krispy Kreme store left around here. How sad.
Timmy's owns all. Not that I'm much of a coffee drinker, but I've rarely touched the other coffee around here like Starbucks/Second Cup/Timothy's. They seem overpriced anyway compared to Timmy's. And I hate how Starbucks calls their sizes tall, grande, or whatever. WTF is that about? I don't like Dunkin' Donuts either which Americans think are like the greatest ever. Timmy's is much better.
Last time I went to the states (New York area), there were plenty of Timmy's along the way. While it's not as big there, I don't think they're doing too bad and are slowly expanding.
The 18 stores which opened in Canada, out of 32 planned, have since been reduced to 6 stores. Three of those exist in Quebec (in Laval, Greenfield Park, and Quebec City.) and other three stores are in Calgary, Alberta, Mississauga, Ontario and Surrey, British Columbia. Krispy Kreme's Canadian assets were put up for sale in 2005 seven weeks after the U.S.-based doughnut company had the firm that owns and operates stores in Canada placed under bankruptcy protection.
