Borneo was more like a docudrama. Australia added the soap opera aspect. It started going downhill after that. Africa started the twist gimick trend and that's where it got away from what it should be.
I disagree that it changed from what it should be. If it had stayed like Australia and Borneo we would most likely not have the show today (sure some would love that). The show had to change in order for it to not get bland. I'll say this until the show dies, that we would all be wishing for some type of format change if the show was still 16 people, no twists, no swaps. It was the natural course of events. Do I wish they still had the same type of editing as they did in Marquesas, Africa, Australia? Hell yeah, but the twists would eventually have been needed, maybe not as soon as they did them but eventually they would have had to.
I do like rewatching Borneo, during easter weekend 2007 I spent the whole weekend watching the whole season. It was great. Out of all the Survivor DVD's I have it is probably the most rewatched one. The Colleen boot episode it epic and remains one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.
