It looks awkward. They didn't know if they were a documentary or a drama yet. There was no such thing as reality TV, so they were basically making it up as they went along. Some of the dialogue scenes, in particular, go on waaaay longer than they probably should.. The gross food challenge in episode 2 was shot with basically one camera and it was at the completely wrong angle.

I loved Borneo the first couple times I watched it. But you watch the premiere of Australia, and then you follow it up with the premiere of Borneo, and it is like night and day. It is a totally different show. They learned a lot in 13 episodes.
