But this is a stupid question as Israel and most of the events leading up to recognizing it as a country occured in the 1940s when most of us were babes in arms or not even conceived yet. We're more likely to remember the 6 day war and most of us supported Israel then. The media was overwhelmingly pro Israel and portrayed it as a tiny beleagured country trying to prevent itself from being wiped off the face of the earth. Exodus, the movie, came out in 1960 and was as big as Titanic was in its day. And giving the Jews land elsewhere would not have worked - this was their holy land as well as that of christians and muslims.
