I had this exact same thought!

And also, Jeff was totally trying to help Erik out during that puzzle. He actually SAID "Guaranteed FInal FouR!!!!!!!!!!" as Erik was working on that part of the puzzle.

Jeffy must have been so pissed when Erik gave it up!
